With the germination of a few plants drawing to and end, and the first set or two of leaves popping up I decided it was time for them to get a little sun. The first day I put them outside one of them was gone! I dug a little lower and saw the roots and part of the stem were still there underground. A few days later after some beautiful growth the other baby plant had all its leaves eaten off, (keep in mind these are still very small) leaving only the little stem. What the fuck nature?! Is this the work of a rodent? Bugs? Any help is appreciated. I still have 15-20 seeds plus 10 germing atm, with 6, 7 freshly planted in little cups inside. I want this to work out.
Common problem man, Deer, Rabbits, etc. Get Chicken Wire, or any sort of netting that you can rig up around the plants. Do this with each plant individually, and make it resemble that of a bird cage around each plant. get something small enough to keep out smaller rodents, but big enough to ensure very little, to no restriction of light is caused. If you have a insect/mite problem get an all organic, natural, plant bug repellent at your local garden/hydroponic store. Hope i helped out man, keep it green. A-Wek
some sort of critter found them irresistible and munched out. fashioning some sort of cage around each plant is probably your surest bet to prevent salad bar thieving little fkrs away. down size to that is a significant loss of visibility stealth. 0f descriptions i've read some sort of dark green vinyl/rubber coated chickenwire is the preffered material. there are also some repellent sprays that work well but i can't personally say how good or bad any one brand is over another. try an advanced search here on sf with the word repellant and i'd bet you'd get some by product name suggestions
Hmm I do believe I have a small section of grey chicken wire fencing somewhere around here. I'll. Try to fashion it into a dome to go over top the little fellas. When the outgrow the dome Ill just make a ring around them. Thats going to seriously cut down on the stealth though... I'll try to find some dark green spray paint.
something similar has happened to me... i watered to much on two newly sprouted and the soil covered them. i was pissed i felt so dumb... after just light light light watering... mainly just keeping it damp not wet thy both came back out.. one is doing great looking like its gonna get its second set of leaves coming in the other not so great. the first day it was up and the leaves on it had mud stuck to the small leaves and looked withered or shriveled and it stayed like that for about two days when today the leaves just clumped off... now just the stem sticks up... will this still grow?
no tellin' if she'll still grow or not but if there aren't new leaves soon she's toast. nurse her along and find out. unrelated question for you please... what are albq winers like? colorado is probably where i'll move if I move to a med state. yet less snow would be very desireable
winters?? sometimes we dont even get snow... others its snowing in april-may haha unpredictable...but the snows are never BIG snows. WHEN we actually get snow.. my area hardly ever does.. not too much rain either i suppose...
