    3 pounds per plant outdoors is very possible.. if the climate is right more is possible. If your growing in small pots (less than 25 gallons is small for outdoor pots) you won't yield much but if you have 100 gallon pots, good soil and good food 3 pounds per plant is achievable especially if you start with seeds and not clones. Also, instead of normal pots go with smart pots. That way your plant can put roots in the ground as it grows, which will give you a better yield. Just because you can't yield 3 per plant doesn't mean that it is not possible. Spend some time in the hills of Humboldt....
