Hi all, Was hunting this morning and found these can yal tell me what type of shrooms they are 2-7 inch caps, off white with brown center on top, fibrous solid stalk, gills frm white to blue, with deep blue gill bruising, turns purple when stalk is cut,
Found in five acre backyard south texas wherne horses once roamed after days of storms, september, Smells like dirt, tops not sticy, was in a group with all different sizes, the smaller ones where more domed , while big ones flattened out, have a ring of some sort half way up stem, smaller ones gills not blue, but stems did bruise purple.....
you might want to try shroomery.org ... not that im doubting anyone here but they are more centered on shrooms
wolfy will probably stop by. he seems to know his shit when it comes to shrooms. ive always heard if it bruises dark blue or purple it was the good kind....but im nowhere near being an expert so please dont take my word for that and eat them
Not a active species do not eat working on a ID. If it bruises blue and has a dark purple-black spore print it will be a good one, ok it has to be a gilled mushroom too. I don't have time right now to give you a proper ID but I'll go ahead and find one for you tonight. A spore print would be awesome or if you know what color the spores are that would work to. Even if you don't though a ID should be possible due to the blue staining.
Cool wolfy, Thought they were mature cubes, i will research how to spore print, also note my blue/green spectrum is not normal (colorblind), ill include pic of the group in there home
to spore print: just chop a cap off, leave it undisturbed under a cup or something sitting on a white piece of paper. The spores will fall and print onto the paper in a certain color...
Ok now that I have had a chance to look closely I see that the stems have a rusty red stain where they were cut. I'm thinking that the spores are dark and that's the reason for the dark blue looking gills. Chlorophyllum molybdites would be my guess possibly Chlorophyllum rhacodes but the scales seem to ill defined. If it is the first it wil have a greenish print and if it's the latter it will be white.
U were right wolfy, Spore print green dark....off to buy a bag injector kit.......thanks everyone for ur help ill put more o my finds on here for help, maybe ill strike paydirt one day
Chlorophyllum Molybdites for sure, you should be glad you didn't eat it. in some individuals the gastrointestinal syndrome, which occurs about 1-3 hours after the meal, can be very severe, especially the colicky abdominal pain, which can mimic that of a 'surgical' abdomen. Symptoms persist for up to six hours, and even longer in a few patients. Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea complete the picture. The diarrhea can be explosive in nature and become bloody. Not gonna kill ya but not a pleasant day.
This is why i dont give advice on things I know nothing about. My first instinct was to say eat em they sound right. Nice goin wolfy
You wouldn't be the first maza, these are actually one of the biggest culprits behind mushroom poisoning for that exact reason. Luckily this isn't deadly but you may wish you would die.
