I've seen threads where people are listing what heat they vape at, but how do you know with an analogue vape like DBV?

Thanks for the reply. What I'm trying to find out is "How" do people know what the actual temperature is.
For example, I've seen people saying they use a certain temperature (c or f) but it looked like they were using analogue vaporizers. Is there a gauge people use?

I have an infrared thermometer, non contact, that can make it easy. Also any bead probe type thermocouple can be placed in front of the heater outlet while air is being drawn out. A cheap infrared, without laser, would probably only cost you $30-$40.

the same thing applies with this. not ever wanting to burn your herb, you should start with the temp low. take some slow pulls, take some fast pulls. then bump up the temp just a little bit and repeat this process.
continue until you start tasting a almost burnt flavor. be careful as to try to not actually burn the material and keep a mental note as to not go past that dial setting with that pace of pull.
what you will notice by varying your pace of pull is different tasting hits as well as an ability to turn the temp higher with a faster pull.

Am I clear that with too slow a pull, at too high a temperature, burning is more likely to occur? And, when vaping with a bong connection, can you still tell that you've entered into burning range because it will taste burnt?
Gracias,
Boz

For an inexpensive IR thermometer, check out Fieldpiece "SIP2". It's a decent little thermometer. Cheap too.

As much of an OCD tech junkie as I am, I've never measured the temps on my SSV, never even felt the need! Now though, I have to. More on this later.

Thanks all. Gonna' order one of those heat gauges as listed above and start to get a sense of what settings / what experience translates into temperature.

I've just tried the "SIP2" Infrared thermometer on the SSV and it over ranges almost immediately. I imagine the range of the unit is only around 250 Degrees F. Using a different thermometer with better optics and sensor I fount temperatures in excess of 600 Degrees F. around the base of the heating element, inside the heater cover. I believe it's going to be necessary to check temperatures with a thermocouple just above the bowl. When I have something to put in there, I'll check it out. I imagine the temperature will fluctuate wildy, due to the inconsistancy of inhale speeds. I'm betting that I will find an average temperature for my inhale speed and dollars to doughnuts it will be different for everyone. Should still be entertaining though.
