iowa holds the all time record for attendance to a collegiate wrestling event. iowa vs iowa state over 15,000 people showed up to carver hawkeye arena to watch the meet.
iowa has a wrestler rated in the top 15 at every weight class.
i went to high school with some of the iowa wrestlers. my high school dominated the state for about 3 st8 years we had one dude who was rated number one in the entire nation at his weight class. they were so good that they went to the nationals and placed really well there too.

iowa has more ncaa team titles than any other school. 20 team titles. 8 of those came in a row. more all-americans than any other school. more ncaa finalists than any other school. the most national champions, & the most points scored in the history of collegiate wrestling. iowa dominated for years now they are on the way back up to the top.

Iowa Vs Iowa State college wrestling this weekend in iowa city. 15,500 people are set to show up to the event thats more then the amount of people that fill the same arena for basketball. iowa state just beat #1 minnesota last week 18-13 iowa state is currently ranked #2 Iowa is ranked #4 both teams have former alumni and former national champs as their coaches should be a great battle between the two best wrestling programs in the nation. |

I used to be something of an athlete... played baseball in high school and soccer at college. I could never choose between the two for "favorite" status, but basketball has gotta be #3.
Now, in terms of watching, I absolutely LOVE watching soccer, and I think I'm one of maybe two dozen Americans who would say that. Soccer is #1 to watch, then basketball (although toking and watching college bball always makes me complain that 35 seconds is too long for a college shot clock), then maybe football and then baseball.
I think it's really interesting how wrestling is SO BIG in Iowa but was never really a big deal in Illinois, not when I was growing up at least.

I think it's really interesting how wrestling is SO BIG in Iowa but was never really a big deal in Illinois, not when I was growing up at least. | its because so many great wrestlers have come from iowa and iowa and iowa state are arguable the two best collegiate wrestling programs of all time iowa is for sure the best of all time without a doubt. iowa state had two of the best wrestlers of all time in dan gable and cale sanderson. both of them won gold medals in the olympics. and won multiple nation titles u of iowa has had the best 30 year run ever in wrestling just dominating for years. we also hold the record for highest attendance to a collegiate wrestling event. 15,500. |
