Stoner Buck$$: 1,636.04 | Keep Him In Your Thoughts Most of you will not know who this young man is; I didn't know who he was until late Sunday. His name is Kevin Everett. He is 25 years old and a back-up tight end for the Buffalo Bills. In an instant, his life (if he survives) was probably changed forever. On Sunday Everett suffered what has been described as a "catastrophic" and life threatening spinal cord injury while making a tackle in the game Sunday against the Denver Broncos. If any of you saw the play, it was gut retching to see it happen. His surgeon reports that it is doubtful that he will ever recover full and normal neurological functions.
I know there are many at this site that have suffered much and are fighting your own good fight against all kinds of physical ailments. So I know you can sympathize with a young man at the height of his physical best who in an instant has it all taken away.
Please say a prayer for him and keep him in your thoughts. |

Head was up, everything was correct in his tackle, his neck just buckled.. When he went down his body was twitching, it was ugly.. Shows how quick something can happen in life, there was literally nothing that could have been done to prevent this, except maybe, for him not playing football... Very sad indeed!!!

Stoner Buck$$: 1,069.56 | Re: Keep Him In Your Thoughts Was just watching sportscenter, and they have lowered his sedation and he is responding and actually moving his arms and legs... So very encouraging new, still a long ways to go but the doctor they were interviewing sounds very optimistic now....

Stoner Buck$$: 1,636.04 | Re: Keep Him In Your Thoughts I just saw a segment on Everett and heard the same news. What an incredible change. his doctors and other medical experts are contributing the miraculous change to a revolutionary procedure that was administered to him soon after he was stabilized on the field and was continued. They introduced intravenously a drug that lowers your internal body temperature. They dropped it to slightly above 90 degrees and continued this through surgery. It had the effects of an instant ice bag on a headache or sprain. It limited the swelling and apparently kept the pressure from increasing on his spinal cord. He surely has a long tough road ahead of him but his prospects are much brighter this evening then they were this morning. |

It is such a shame. I actually haven't seen the footage. I am without Satellite since Monday. Glad to hear he is moving...At least Kevin has a chance at some quality of life after all. Peace all. lw |

Stoner Buck$$: 1,636.04 | Re: Keep Him In Your Thoughts I think all the sports world was so saddened when it first happened and then 36 hours later everyone was elated, including me, when the doctors started saying he would walk out of the hospital. Now that several days have passed, Everett is definitely demonstrating voluntary movement particularly in his legs and shoulders. He is off the ventilator and breathing on his own. On the downside, he has demonstrated no movement in his hands so far. He is still early in what will surely be a long and difficult recovery but his prospects are certainly far better then they were thought to be last Sunday night. We'll keep pulling for him! |

Stoner Buck$$: 1,636.04 | Re: Keep Him In Your Thoughts I heard this morning that Everett showed movement in three fingers on his right hand. So maybe as the spinal cord becomes less inflamed he might regain more feeling and eventually movement. I hope so. |

Stoner Buck$$: 122.32 | Re: Keep Him In Your Thoughts So far, doctors said, Everett's increased movement is encouraging, after he sustained a severe spine injury involving his third and fourth cervical vertebrae during a game against the Denver Broncos. So far, it looks as though Everett will regain the ability to walk -- although not the ability to play football -- and one day lead a normal life.
