| Re: GIVE UP YER AUL SINS.... Hi Lu,
Great film ... it's a shame that these types of productions seem to have become extinct ...
Whenever I am taken back to a childhood memory ... it is special ... whenever I think about what my religion was like when I was a child .... well, that was powerful ...
Sunday AM television was all spiritual .. even for children .. I would always watch Davey and Goliath .. a gentle but direct message to live life as god wants us to. This was just one message to go along with the mass and Sunday School, taught by nuns after mass.
I was raised Roman Catholic in southern New England ... and was an alter boy at a time where there would be 15-20 alter boys serving a Sunday mass ... The mass was spoken in multiple languages ... English and either Latin (traditional) or the neighborhood language (Italian, Portugese, Polish) .. All the rules were followed ... Confession on Saturday and fasting before Holy Communion ... women required to wear hats/veils ... and everyone dressed up ... No meat on Friday .... and if you died with a mortal sin on your soul ... you were damned to hell ...
Over the years the church has changed along with the world ... and I sometimes struggle with it ... was my faith a childhood myth, like Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny ?? ... how can so many millions of people worshipping other religions be banished to hell ?? Despite the questions I just try live in peace and respect toward others, which at a high level overlaps most religions.
One thing I do know is that teaching children spiritual lessons of good and evil at a young age is very important for a community to evolve and live in peace.
