I am a first time grower using soil and I was wondering if there was anyone out there that could help me. What is the best way to oxygenate your nutrient mix ? I tried using a bubble stone but that raised the PPM level 3 times to what it should be. How do you lower the PPM to what it should be after oxygenating your nutrient mix ?

hi buds,
welcome to sf
well mate im not sure it will be the air stone makin your ppm go up unless its just the water evapiratein, its more likely your plants are just drinkin water only n leavin the nutes makin your ppm go up to make your ppm go down just add destilled water dont ph the water leave it high n the nutes already in the res will bring the ph down.
it could be nute lock, too hot a growroom, what system you usin? or you just hand waterin them????
if you can sort out some pics then its easyer to tell
what is your ppm? n PH?
peace

I don't understand. If you are growing in soil...you don't need to oxygenate your nutes.
water has oxygen. tghe reason we oxygenate a rez is that the water will get stale after a while and is in a closed container. You shouldn't have this problem in soil in a pot.
Oh. and a bubble stone CANNOT raise you ppm. If anything like mentioned above. If you make a mix, and then the mix ppm raises significantly, then your plant is uptaking water only...saying that the nute solution is too strong. Or;
growroom is way too hot. If this happens then the plant will attempt to transpire and drink m,ore water out of the mix...leaving the salts.

I read somewhere that before you water your plant (growing in soil)you should oxygenate your nutrient mix 24 hrs. before watering. When you do that the PPM will rise dramatically. So are you telling me that all I have to do is mix up some plant food adjust the ph, then water my plants and not worry about the oxygenation.

yer dude all you need to do is,
fill your water/nutes container with tap water, then leave the tap water for 24 hours, then add your nutes (for soil) if required, to your desired ppm.
then check the ph n adjust if necessary. then just water as required.
for airatein your roots you sould have plenty of perlite in your soil n have a nice light fluffy soil that lets your root breath
what soil are you usin ??? peace

p.s. you only need to airate your water/nutes rez when keepin the water/nutes for more than a few days when in soil n hand waterin.
if your that worried you could use something like oxy-plus (liquid oxygen).
peace n good luck dude

SmokeDogg I am using Miracle-gro Garden Soil with a 50/50 mixture of verm./perl. I have not herd anything about the oxy-plus stuff, does it work ? | |

yar dude it works Liquid Oxygen
Liquid Oxygen contains 17.5% Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) in a stabilised form. (H2O2) is highly oxygenating in action. It is a chemical which is fundamental to life itself, participating in many of the metabolic processes in plants and animals. When added to the nutrient tank it will quickly break down into pure water, releasing the extra oxygen ion into the solution where it can be taken up by the roots of the plant. In plants the extra oxygen provided will massively stimulate protein production at the cellular level. This will greatly enhance the photsynthetic process, leading to bushier plants with larger leaves, thicker stems and shorter internodes. Plants will be stronger and leaves darker, thus collecting light with greater efficiency and further improving photosynthetic response.
Oxy-Plus will put oxygen into your tank and is also usefull for many other applications. Vital to many hydoponic systems. peace

peace n good luck dude | The missing point. Good info here. Another point to make if keeping a bucket of nutrients is; Keep bucket in dark. And as mentioned; Adding an airstone to aerate the solution is a plus
Good Luck all. Peace |

I've never been much of a soil grower, but sounds like u are overcomplicating the process. Don't over nute the plants in soil, the soil will carry a lot of the nutes.. I've even read where letting the soil dry is a positive thing because there are nutes in the soil the plant receives when the soil is dry.. Also, I believe airstones are more for hydro grows when the same water is used for days at a time, so that water will stay oxygenated.. Like I said, my experience is in hydro grows, I always seemed to overcomplicate things in my soil attempts under lights.. Now outdoors in soil is a different story, had good luck with that.. Listen to the guru's here and they will get you all straight.. My best advice with soil, is don't over water causing "root rot", and dont over fert.. In your first few grows, don't complicate things, learn about the plant, you will make mistakes, we all have, and in no time you will learn.. Here is a great link from another thread with lots readable material, Jorge Cervantes Marijuana cultivation, "growers bible" was the most helpful book I read, FYI.. Experience and research are your best friends as you grow, and people always willing to help here, even though some opinions may vary.. Lots of experienced people here...
