high pH misting discourages mildew?

I want to increase the humidity without inviting powdery mildew. Is misting the plants with alkaline water a good way? How high a pH can I use w/out hurting the plants?

Re: high pH misting discourages mildew?

Use a soluable silicone and you'll not have that problem.
Why do you want an increase in humidity?

Re: high pH misting discourages mildew?

Thanks Feral,
I wanted to raise the humidity because the fan leaves' margins are sticking up and 1 leaf has rolled into a tube...though, It seems better since I moved the fan up...blowing less directly on them.
I'm worried about mildew....witnessed a nightmare...I heard water with pH 8.0 is good for killing mildew once you've seen it. Do you think 7.1 would keep the slightly acid loving mildew spores from developing?
I'm going to look it up, but what are you suggesting the soluble Silicone for? T keep off the mildew?

Re: high pH misting discourages mildew?

Leaf curl over is generally caused by a PH imbalance or a calcium deficiency.

Incorrect PH can and does cause havoc in nutrient up-take.

Grow- 5.8-6.2

Bloom- 6.5.

I've never seen a grow that uses soluable silcone develope mildew. So there's a tip!

Re: high pH misting discourages mildew?

Thanks Feral.
Canna says to always set the pH between 5.8 and 6.2, and I didn't realize plants liked a higher pH when flowering, so I guess I'll raise it from the 5.8 to 6.2 when I switch the lights to 12/12
