When I saw one of these lil things in Italy first I got so excited. I was all ready to brag to the meggers that (Yes!!) we had hummingbirds. It was only on closer inspection that I realised it was an insect. They move and hover just like a hummingbird does, hence the name - Hummingbird moth. This year I managed to snap one.
Thanks Spliffy. When you're up the mountain with no phones, satalite tv, computer etc. you find you have quite a bit of time on your hands..... lol
That plant grows up the front of my house, so it was just a matter of getting settled in and comfie on the top step and snapping as much as I could. I got about 6 semi decent pics out of about 70. The rest were just a fuzzy blurr.
ive got them in my garden in UK SOUTH EAST, i too thought it was a humming bird wen i first saw it hovering over my plants .
i was so amazed but on closer inspection realized it was just a moth lol
Wow, I didn't realise we got them in this part of the world. I've never seen them in Ireland, your climate must be alot warmer in the sunny south east. Poor lil buggers'd get washed out of it here
