I brought home a stray pit bull today. She Is very sweet. Ive never had a pit let alone a stray.
Any advise would be appreciated!! She looks like she Is around 3 years old.
She was hanging around my work for a few weeks.

Ingreenfields that is a wonderful thing you have done..helping a stray animal by providing it a loving home is awesome, but not to mention a pitbull who are sooo misunderstood & very often "put down" just for being a pitbull..they are loving dogs, very smart & loyal...i'm sure when u take him/her to the vet they can tell you how well its been cared for...good luck & congrats on your new friend!

She has already made me a safe person If she gets scared she goes straight to me.
I was a little worried, your right they have a bad rep.. I have just been trying to let her feel comfortable.

right on...keeping her comfortable is the main thing right now. who knows how she was treated at her previous home..my dog duke was a stray running around town & had been way mistreated, but once he realized we loved him & wasn't gonna hurt him he just became one of us.lol...im sure you will expirence the same thing..beware of loud noises until she get settled..again, congrats & good luck
i wish more people would take in stray animals..it truely is a nation wide problem.

I love pits! my mom has a blue nose. You got past the destructive puppyhood, so get lots of chew toys, don't give it excess scraps unless you exercise yours well, and lots and lots of nose kisses will ensure it will be a happy pit bull. These are the best dogs ever. Thank you for helping another little soul.

I have had a few stray dogs in my life – I actually think that they were run
away dogs and they ran away because they were miss treated.
They all turned out to be great dogs because I think a dog knows when they
found something good and they appreciate it so they will show you their
appreciation by keeping you safe and being a loyal friend.

Im so happy with her..I will try to post a pic maybe someone can tell me something about her.
I just dont know much about pits.. She seems a bit skiddish and i dont know what she has been through. She Is very skinny but dosent get agressive around food.

get her to the vet! they need to check her out to make sure she's healthy, catch her up on shots etc. you don't want a sick pup on your hands.

good for you taking her in, i love pits. they are an amazing and loyal breed.

my suggestion is to find as much info through reputable dog breed sites re: pits.
i've been looking into getting one and they do make great dogs but definitely need manners, taught to obey their owners.

and most importantly need socialization as early as possible with other dogs and kids etc. pits were used for protection and as guards so they can be less than friendly with other dogs if they are used to being solo.

grab a book about the breed, you won't be let down!
enjoy your girl! strays/dogs from shelters are amazing when they start bonding with their new owner, i'm convinced they can tell you saved them and are eternally grateful and pay you back in loyalty.

Pits are one of the most loyal breeds out there and get a bad rap, train her well and she will make you a proud owner.

skittish sounds like she may have had some abuse from people, but ones that fed her. That is about the only thing that makes sense to me. My bf put on sports this morning and it was all about mike vic, when is that guy just gonna have a career ending injury?

I had a friend who got a pit and didn't raise him right and it was a total disaster. Just make sure to not to ever hit the dog (duuuhh) and give her lots of love and exercise.

Sorry, but as a pit bull owner, I have to say Vick DOES deserve a second chance, we all do, HOWEVER, his second chance should be flipping burgers at Wendys, not playing in the NFL....THAT is bullshit
