Just thought I'd share what I have learned lately. Dogs and cats can have frequent bouts of ear mites if they are outside a lot. If they have a brown residue in their ears and esp. if they are scratching and shaking their head they prob have it. Of course you should clean their ears reg and put cotton or the like in them for baths. If you notice a brown or reddish brown "gunk" in them here's a simple solution. Put a few drops of mineral oil {baby oil} in the ear, try to get it right down in the canal, you might need help to keep them still to do this! The oil I used had aloe and vitamin E in it, both help the irritation and healing from scratching. Overnight the problem was gone!! Between the time, gas money, cost of an appointment and prescription this can save considerable money. Keep your pets as happy as they make you!! Peace..Hazin'
BTW.. they say that the oil "drowns" the mites. You might want to reapply it after three days to get rid of any new ones from eggs that might be in there.
