have you been giving them any fertilizer yet¿
ive never grown outdoors, not really sure when the flowering cycle starts, but you will be needing to give it a little bit of food here soon.
good luck with em, hopefully they will be girlies that produce some quality nugage for ya. keep us posted.

So far just water and miracle grow. I think the one in the pot is a female.
I tried this last year with two plants. they grew from may--oct. One plant had small buds, some were kick ass, some did nothing. The other plant just grew, it never budded?
It looks like three are starting to flower. Is their a better fertilizer to buy than mircle grow?
Any help is greatly appreciated. thank homer the stoner | |

miracle grow will work, but it is not ideal for cannabis.
mainly, you want to keep in mind that while in its vegetative growth phase, mj likes a fert with a bit more nitrogen. in flower, the plant needs very little nitrogen but a lot of phosphorous.

look for a high "N' number of the N-P-K listed on the container. if you're going cheap miracle works well enough and i've used it off-n-on for many years with good results. just be sure to dilute to about 1/3 to 1/2 of what directions call for and they shouldn't need it any more than once every 2-3 weeks if kept in a pot and once/week if in the ground. once flowers begin to show switch the ferts to a high "P" of the N-P-K...bloom is a good one and so is super-bloom...but once again those need to be diluted from what directions call for and remember that it's best to not give them enough than to give them too much...this is one time when if a little is good then a lot is better is a bad thing!
good luck

Like Homerthestoner I too am an older guy trying my hand at first time growing... Outdoors. Unlike Homer I put the seeds dirrectly in the ground and now at the end of July they are over 6 feet tall with no noticiable budding... I am not sure what kind of varity seeds I planted but the stuff was good.
My concern is when will they bloom and how much bigger will they get,,, since this is growing on my property - 3 acres in PA by NJ north of New Hope.
I have attached a photo... any comments or help would be appriciated...

i too am an older guy but i've been growing outdoors for a few decades and one indoors. i start mine indoors then transplant directly inyo the ground around mid-may. mine are also at the 6' level but after spending the morning tying them down they're now at 4' where they'll be kept until harvest as my cedar fence is a little more than 6' high and i have neighbors on one side of my property. you might want to start thinking about tying yours down too if they can be seen by unwanted eyes. i use bailing wire (found at any hardware store) because it's easy to cut, easy to mold to desired shape and is thick enough that it won't cut the stems.
you should expect them to grow at least 2 more feet, 3 is probably more likely, before harvest rolls along...usually around halloween with the mostly indica strains i grow. i will be giving them veg ferts one or two more times before switching to a flowering fert around mid-august and using the flowering ferts 3-4 times or appx every other week. i already have a strong manure compost mixed in with the soil so your situation will probably be different but the most common mistake new growers make is over-fertilizing (over watering isn't much of a concern when growing directly in the ground that has good drainage) so go light with the ferts. this is one case when too little is better than too much...
most strains should still be in veg now so you shouldn't be seeing any buds yet but you should definitely be seeing hairs by now...if not they're most likely male.
good luck...we're almost there!

Thank You Dez, I will take your advice and tie them back this week.... I have them in a wire pen to keep the deer away so the tieing should be easy.... There is a hedge row of trees between me and my neighbor but I don't want to take any chances.

lol, my buddy south of me (near the mexi border) had to wrap his up with chicken wire to keep the deer away too! that's one prob i don't have to put up with fortunately...but i do have a neighbor who's rather close which is why i built the cedar fence around the garden. i also planted on both ends of the garden some bamboo and vitex, a member of the sage family (aka chaste tree...it too has 5 pointed leaves and buds...but the buds are long purple flowers!). both provide excellent camoflage...along with some tall sunflowers mixed in. i also planted honeysuckle vines around the yard because they bloom twice a year here with the 2nd blooming coming at just the right time. and they're very smelly with their sweetness...hummingbirds also like em.
good luck
