Re: new to outdoor growing

you can plant pretty much any strain...they all have the same needs. water is the key for success in the desert and you'll need to water at least twice/day for 20-30 minutes or so, depending on your watering system (i use flat sprinkler hose double-looped around each plant). i'm in the sonoran desert and they take water 20 mins 3x/day, every day and are doing very well...but may need longer watering times as the temps increase (we're already hitting 100+ every day now).

and altho as much light as possible is best, they don't need full direct sunlight all day. many of us grow ours under and up thru mesquite trees (they blend in very well too!) where they are shaded for a good part of the day. but a strong indirect sunlight is a good idea so keep your tree trimmed so as much light as possible gets in without giving away its location.

if planting seeds direct into the ground or are moving seedlings from indoors to out they'll need something to protect them thru seedling stage...we use aluminmum cans with both ends cut off and the can is pressed into the ground with the seed site or seedling centered inside the open can. this will keep leaf-cutters off of the tender shoots and discourage rodents until the plants grow their 'bark'...

good luck

Re: new to outdoor growing

Interesting to hear how they do some grow tips in Texas. I like the idea of the mesquite trees...I use that stuff for charcoal. good shit for BBQ.

Re: new to outdoor growing

Howdy,

I live in a dry area of Hawaii. It will not get as hot here but the wind dryness are similar. So anyway, after doing some reading about several strains (plus I am a medical patient so I was looking for a strong strain as well) I went with Pure Power Plant and I got the seeds from Nirvana. I will let you know how they do as they do. I will probably get them sexed, potted and outdoors by mid December.
There is a guy in Australia that made a video called "A Growers Lot" check the first part out on you tube at:

He grows a mostly Sativa strain that looks to do well in the wind and sun. It is a funny informative film more directed at the commercial grower but useful tips for everyone. Plus, he sells his seeds for a $1 Aussie each in 50 seed lots which is a great deal as well. If you do email him about his seeds tell him the guy from the big island sent you.

heyy. soil ph should be 7 or close to 7. As with most living things, marijuana requires salt, but too much causes dehydration. I dont really know any specific ammount of salt resistance but you cant be watering with ocean water if that was your thinking.

Re: new to outdoor growing

lol yeah id think ocean water would be a bad idea. i think that i need to check on some different seed banks. the one i ordered from this last time sent me northern lights that are sposed to be able to grow in many different conditions. but germing techniques aren't working on these seeds!
