I was thinking about how no rock bands are the same anymore. Like, the way that the music has changed and adapted and evolved and in some ways gotten better, in others gotten worse. I was wondering what the main cause of that is. Remember when it used to be more about the music and just having a good time and stuff like that. I was listening to some of my old records earlier and I put on Queen II. And then I remembered that they came out with another album recently with Paul Rodgers doing vocals and had to go pick it up. And to be honest, they are still Queen. They still have a great sound, and Brian May’s still rockin that guitar like no ones business. i have to agree with the 2 people and say pink floyd. i recently realised that to me they are the greatest rock band...actually make that the greatest band of all time, the musicianship, the feel and their ability to make people listen to albums as a whole is unprecedented and unrepeatable. I as a guitarist drool over every single solo David Gilmour has ever made. They are pioneers in so many ways, way ahead of their time. Even if they didn't exist then and they started up now they would still be ahead.

I can't actually believe that it hasn't been mentioned. TOOL is the greatest rock band of all time, in perpetuity. Do not, under any circumstances, question it.

Hey, lets keep this post intellectual. Lists prove nothing, although spot on delerious with those musical interests. Post with some of your knowledge and explain the choice, its a very good question.

As for me, I would say that Led Zeppelin surpasses even the Beatles for greatest rock band. Just the rock persona that they embody is unmatched. There musical transformation is unbelievably progressive.

It's hard to say who is the greatest. Many arguments can be made. Depends on what you are judging on. Quality of music? Number of albums put out? Longevity? So many variables, but I can say my favorite rock band of all time is without a doubt Metallica. I think they recorded 10 albums.
