Stoner Buck$$: 1,022.01 | Amy Winehouse About a year ago, the lovely Lulu gave me a musical tip, and maybe even a sample track(?), by Amy Winehouse .. someone who I had never heard of ... a promising pop talent from the UK with a blues/soul style ... I really don't know how to characterize her sound, but I know that I like it ...
To make this long story short, I just nabbed tickets for her show in Boston .... so on May 7th I'll be at the show ... while still relatively unknown in the US, she is quite popular amongst the young crowd ..
thanks Lu xxx ... you ROCK !!

Stoner Buck$$: 1,022.01 | Re: Amy Winehouse I am a sucker for female vocalists with attitude ... live jazz or blues in small venues, can't get enough of that ... unusual for a guy bred on 70's rock and moved into early 80's punk .. I have a passion for all types of music.
Anyway, Amy Winehouse is the real deal ...
Donnie

Stoner Buck$$: 214.79 | Re: Amy Winehouse OK, I’ve listened to the album about 10 times and the verdict is in.
I hereby find that I fucking love her.
You know what’s funny? Sometimes she reminds me of a James Bond soundtrack (which I find way cool)
My favorite tune is “you know I’m no good”..I just love it.

Stoner Buck$$: 1,022.01 | Re: Amy Winehouse The show last night was fantastic .... sold-out Avalon in Boston, tix being scalped for more than double the very reasonable face value of $20 .
Likem, Amy closed her show with "I'm No Good" ... Overall , she sounded great, although the show was fairly short in duration ... Amy was supported by an 8 piece band called the Dap-Kings ... she pretty much sang every song from Back to Black ... she's got lots of originality with a retro sound ...
As an extreme bonus ... the "warm-up" band was led by Patrick Wolf ... anybody heard of him ?? Lulu he's from your part of the world !!! ... he put on an amazing set, lots of energy, I'll be buying his CD ... below is a Patrick Wolf video ... it's probably not for everybody, but he rocked/shocked the house last night.

There's been alot of stories and pics in the press
here, featuring a 'worse for the drink' looking Ms.Whitehouse...and her
weight loss and new tatts have made her a target for alot of unfair speculation
...anyway, sorry she didn't play longer but hey great price tickets - Wow $20...that is good value
Don't you hate what most artists are chargin for live venues these days??
€80+ seems to be the norm here...fucking ridiculous
I was just readin today about Prince and his forthcoming European gigs...
where he's said he wants have the lovely Amy sing with him...Whoo hooo Quote:
US performer Prince is to play 21 concerts in London this summer, his only European dates of the year.
He is to spend a week at the O2 arena - formerly the Millennium Dome - with tickets priced at £31.21, a reference to his album 3121.
He will also play at a number of far smaller venues to make seeing him "affordable for everybody".
The 48-year-old, known for hits such as Kiss and Raspberry Beret, has prepared 150 songs to perform on the tour.
And he hopes to be joined on stage by soul singer Amy Winehouse, having declared himself a big fan.
"I love London," he explained at a press launch. "I've had some of my favourite shows here."
An "extended stay" had been arranged because during his last tour in London - in October 2002 - "a lot of people didn't get to see me".
Prince - who famously changed his name to a squiggle symbol in the 1990s after falling out with his record label - added that he would be house-hunting in the British capital.
"As soon as I leave here I'm going to look for a place to live," he told journalists.
Tickets for the O2 arena gigs, the first of which will be on 1 August, go on sale on Friday at 0900 BST.

What this article fails to mention is £31.21 buys you your ticket PLUS a copy
of the album - Now that is value for money - I'm going...watch this space lol
Oh and yer man Patrick Wolf...ty Donnie..never heard of the guy but I'm
definately going to check him out, I loved the vid. That's two new artists
I've gotten today, Nalu gave me another great one...but I'm still looking thru
vids...I'll post soon
lovely as always to chat music with ya Donnie

I meant Winehouse...I was readin some old BBC stuff earlier and Mary Whitehouse

lol....stoned... nite all x

As I was reading this, I thought of a female singer person whose work I really like (her lyrics are great, imho... very literate & also real... they really capture a mood). She's Mary Gatchell, & here's her site: http://marygatchell.com.
I actually went to middle school with her in NH, & though we weren't really friends, she was one of the few who never picked on me, & who actually treated me nicely whenever we spoke. She's just good people, so it's nice to see her pursuing a passion.
My fave is Off My Feet... sexy, but intelligent. Just as I fancy myself, LOL! |
