You obviously are taking this entirely too personally dude. For the record, I have no problem understanding logic(I'm actually laughing about that harder than you probably laughed about my saying you don't understand what underground is). Beyond being a programmer and an engineer who spends so much of my time ballz deep in logic problems its scary, I've always more or less considered logic my forte(and anyone who really knows me would tend to agree).
So speaking as a student of logic, allow me to logically fuck up your entire argument with a counterexample, ie, me. I am not a fan of hip-hop(I enjoy a few artists, including the ones crow mentioned and a couple of the ones mentioned by turtle who you claim are 'underground') and yet I have heard of all but one of the artists mentioned. They're not that obscure. Underground artists are generally speaking unsigned or on independant labels, no?

While the guy who said all hiphop artists sucked missed quite a few, he is correct in his statement with the knowledge he has. Mainstream rap has slowly taken a crap on it's self in the last 5 years (some experts say 10 years) but true hiphop has been kept alive and is booming on the underground scene (and will soon make a comeback into mainstream), but since I don't know anything about underground music I won't go there..plus that's a total different industry, and it's irrelevant to the topic. And since my post had nothing to do with anything that was said after that, then it makes complete sense. |
A large part of hip hop sucks, but there are good artists performing and they aren't 'underground'. Nas and Public Enemy are signed with Def Jam, if you looking for counterexamples here. Some of the bands he listed are unsigned and as such would be 'underground', but not all of them as you claim, and even most of the unsigned bands are well known.
My point is that crow made a general statement about the genre and turtle refuted that point with counterexamples. You said the counterexamples weren't valid because they're all 'underground' bands no ones ever heard of so they don't figure into the argument. I just proved that they aren't underground. Not only that, but I also blew up your argument that only hip hop fans would know those bands because I am not a hip hop fan and I know them. You have no argument. Also, nothing I've said has referenced anything after your post, and I don't get why you keep saying that.

What doesn't seem logical to me is criticizing an entire genre unless you have complete knowledge of that genre. By your 'logic' if I've only ever seen a red M&M then I can strongly declare that red is the only color of M&M's, no matter what other colors people offer me.
And for the record, if I asked someone what the worst movie ever was and they said a genre, I would smack them for being a tard and mentioning a whole genre when I was asking for a specific movie(no offense crow, this is a list thread so even though your totally wrong, it still makes sense in this context).
In the future, please don't take things so personal, and if thats not possible, just try to not be a patronizing ass when you post and I'll do the same. I realize I probably started this by suggesting you weren't aware of what constituted underground, but thats what you get when you claim that bands signed to major labels are 'underground', so take it for what it is.
Also, R Kelly sucks(had to keep with the theme of the thread

)
