Has anybody ever checked out this movie? Just out on DVD recently. Its a true story based on the book, so maybe some of you have read the book vs. watched the movie, but the movie was amazing. It was so incredibly powerful and sad. If you havn't seen or heard of it, I would definitely give it 2 thumbs up... so check it out
Emile Hirsch plays the lead, and he does a mind blowing job.
Its completely wonderful. Its very intense though... so be warned. I love movies like that, that put me right there and give me feelings like I actually know what he is going through. Very well done.
I haven't seen the movie, though I already have a substantial bias against it. I guess I'll have to watch it to have the proverbial "leg to stand on". Though from what I've heard someone starves to death in a place they were unprepared to be in. Is this so? Being a big fan of survival at all costs, I've boycotted this movie. Is it really worth watching, despite the fact that the main character perishes at his own hands? Am I terribly mistaken?

The WHOLE movie is great, not just one sad part of it. Its about this guys life, and this guys story. Its a very well done film, and Sean Penn deserves a standing ovation for the way he portrayed Christopher McCandless and his life. Its a true story, which makes it that much more powerful.
However, if you arn't interested then just don't watch it. I hope you decide to give it a shot
Indeed. As I said I don't think I can form a complete opinion of this without watching it. I suppose I will have more to say post of that. Acting aside. Does the main character allow himself to die?

Peace and Movies.
Hi PS ,
It took me a while to pick this one up .... but I have to say that this movie gave me a lot to think about .... which is the quality that I like most about a film.
The story about running away from a comfortable life to find truth is interesting in and of itself ... but what I found most impressive is that all along the way .. the lead character, while initially downplaying the need for family .. experiences his own close and caring relationships with people that he meets ... and in doing so ... learns that their perspective on life .. while opposite to his own, was equally valid.
In the end ... while not at all as he planned ... he did find truth. (and also some gratuitous nudity LOL, which I thought was intentionally injected to secure an R Rating in the US ... attracting a more mature and thoughtful audience ) ...
Peace and Perspective
