The story about running away from a comfortable life to find truth is interesting in and of itself ... but what I found most impressive is that all along the way .. the lead character, while initially downplaying the need for family .. experiences his own close and caring relationships with people that he meets ... and in doing so ... learns that their perspective on life .. while opposite to his own, was equally valid.
In the end ... while not at all as he planned ... he did find truth. (and also some gratuitous nudity LOL, which I thought was intentionally injected to secure an R Rating in the US ... attracting a more mature and thoughtful audience ) ...

Hello DonnieDarko
Im really glad you finally got a chance to enjoy this film
I couldn't believe how I got tied up in the emotions of this movie... and the relationships he formed. I don't really ever cry watching film/television but his relationship with that elderly man touched me like I couldn't believe.
Also the idea of being forced to be at peace with yourself and nature. You would surely go insane out there with your own thoughts... but you would definitely understand life the way it should be lived.. without the pressures of society.
Again, glad you enjoyed.
Peace and Pot.
