I had the same desire to know if he had died in real life or not. So I did some research today and found quite a bit about Kal Penn (Kutner.)
He died in the show. The reason for the writers killing him is because he asked to leave the show to pursure a different career. Kal said it was a difficult choice to make because he loved being on House, and hasn't worked with a smarter group of people on a tv show.
He is not leaving acting all together but for right now he is. Throughout his life Kal had two passions one was arts and the other being public service. He has took an offer to become the associate director in the White House office of public liaison.
I was a littles suprised to learn most of this. I would not have imagined Kal dropping his acting career for politics. After seeing how successful House was going for him. After seeing his movies Harold and Kumar I thought he was a toker but I found out he isn't. I read that he as well as Harold (John Cho) have never smoked weed before.
Kal said that his grandparents marched with Gandhi in the Indian Independence movement. He felt the urge to help with public service because of the value system his grandparents installed in him.
Whats everyone's take on that?
