I was just wondering if fresh shrooms can be preserved by simply putting them in a freezer, or if this might do something that would neutralize the psychoactive components.

it wont effect pychactive components but you must dry them properly before freezing using a fan or a light bulb and a black t shirt.

Can't I just put them in without drying them? Supposedly drying mushrooms significantly decreases their potency.

trust me i have tried it don t do it. i think there is a way to freeze it but i think it involves dry ice not sure you can chack shroomery.org

Go ahead and freeze those fresh mushrooms. When you pull them out of the freezer and let them thaw you will have the nastiest bunch of slime you have ever seen in your life. Remember that water expands when frozen; you will break all the cell walls and lose the internal structure of the shroom.

Definitely dry before freezing.
