I watched this last night, it's a BBC repeat broadcast from late July. The program follows actor John Barrowman on a quest to get answers to the whole nature vs nurture debate and discover what really makes him gay.

Interesting viewing, it's on youtube in 6 parts. I'll just link part1 here.

Very cool, Lu ... it kept me in suspense trying to figure out how it was going to end ... You could tell that John Barrowman had his own experience and feelings and "thought" that he knew himself ... but he was willing to be open to what science and technology could reveal. It was also very interesting how his parents , at times, felt that there was a possibility that they may have had something to do with his orientation.

I came away feeling that we could know so much more ... but this gets to be a sensitive area ... any time that science may be able to prove that religious beliefs are wrong.

I really like John Barrowman (my youngest son is a huge DrWho fan) and for sheer entertainment purposes I enjoyed this enormously, especially the map reading in the car test (OMG that's me lol)

I felt kind of uneasy when I first heard about this program coz I'm of the opinion that homosexuality isn't something that needs scientific tests or proof of origins in order to be validated. But in saying that I was glued to the screen throughout and I did feel huge disappointment for him when his DNA profile turned out to be the same as his straight brother.

Definately an interesting hours viewing..... I wonder did Torog watch it

I wish more people shared your opinion ... but progress is being made as gays become more visible .. in the media, in the workplace and campuses, as well as in families.

I watched this & found it very interesting.

I actually have a younger Brother that is gay, he came out in his teens, & I have an older Half-Sister who is gay as well. There is also another Half-Sister who is straight like myself.

We never had any contact with the Half-Sisters until earlier this year (we have the same Father but different Mother's) but as it turns out she & my younger Brother are very similiar in a lot of ways. They had never met since my Brother was a baby so there isn't any way that she could have had any influence on the way he has turned out, they dress similarly, their taste in music is pretty similar,they even laugh at the same daft jokes that everyone else groans at. There's loads of things, even as far as she teaches the subject that he is doing a degree in. & of course they are both gay lol.

We've all had long discussions on this & the consensus within our family anyway, is that nature really must have some influence on stuff like that because we weren't all brought up together. It has to be in the Genes, at least for some people.

Wow that was hard work .... scuse me being all long-winded lol, I think I got the point out eventually

I think the idea of learning more about people is the valid reason to look into stuff like this. its important for us to understand well, us in as many ways as we can. and in concentrating on this trait in people, along with others is all it will do in my opinion is further us along, and allow a better understanding for the entire makeup of our self. to learn more and gain knowledge is in my opinion a path towards better heatlh and personal comfort in this life.
