| backup power for small closet garden?
hi all,
hoping to get a few plants growing in a closet soon but want to be sure the plants don't get all confused if we have a power loss, which happens often enough around here b/c of many trees. probably won't be able to afford a whole-house solution right now. there are small UPS systems out there but they're pretty expensive. anyone know of a way to hook a car or marine battery up with a converter and some kind of automatic switch so if power goes down when i'm at work it will switch to battery right away and run the light for a few hours? and charge off the household electricity when the grip is up.
i know this might be off topic, just thought someone else here had maybe rigged up a similar solution already. the battery would need to run a 125w CFL, a very small air cleaner (6x6") and a little plug in-timer.
i've only grown once and did a 24-hour vegetation cycle. seeing a few posts where 6h dark is recommended. maybe a 6h dark cycle would allow backup power to charge one or two batteries during dark time and discharge during light time, bypassing the need for a part that detects power outage.
rambling here, sorry. thanks for any input.
