Thinking of doing cuttings but cant afford to run two HPS lights. want to use 400w for cuttings but want a cheaper way of keeping a mother in veg. Are the florecent tubes and stuff like that any good??

Yep,a 250 cfl will keep mum's healthy and productive,I was taking 30 clones every 2 weeks of 2 plants from one 250w cfl.
Clones require minium lighting as they are putting all their energy in to putting out roots.
After they root the 250 will veg em.
If cloning uner hid's use something to filter the light down a lil for the first 24 hours.
This is one of the best ways to do it.
Keep your hid's for bloom,clf's use less energy too.
Im sure you can use less but for decent growth I reconmend a 250cfl.

I've got all mine under two 40w flo tubes. They do great and there are new places to take clones at least every week....

Ps those are 4ft flo tubes. I thought I may need two (for a total of four bulbs) but the 80 watts (2, 4-ft tubes) is doing great.

I have 4 of them here (T-12 shop lights 6500K , 3050 lumens each).

You can build em yourself,£80 should get one complete.
