if you wanna go cheap id use soft white (2600k) cfl lights and start them on 12/12, you can pick them up from almost anywhere, id say get about 7 or 8 of them for just 4 plants. but what you should really invest in is a hps light worth the money!

Hello Mr.Green, you should look at these thread: is this a bright idea ??
And well... also a research on the net, and maybe a download of some ebooks like Jorge Cervantes books, ... are also a great sources of info ^^
wooT Pothead " cfl lights and start them on 12/12..." maybe im not getting your point, since my english isnt the best but...
12/12 --> should only be used for the flowering stage.
I recomend 24 hrs of light for the veg stage, and sure for the flowering stage you should invest in hps maybe a 400w for a good harvest.

I was actually going to suggest a 400 Watt HID fixture as well. They can be had for relatively cheap and are well worth the investment. I've heard mixed reports on the 24/0 - 18/6 debate. I prefer 18/6, I don't actually know if it makes a difference, I like to let the little veggies rest. The 400 Watt fixture would kill two birds with one stone, it would heat up your enclosure, likely to the point you'll have to vent it and it will exponentially increase your yield in the end, comparatively anyway.

I recommend everyone use 430w Son Agro HPS because the bulb is suitable for both the vegetative and the flowering cycle. Having grown under HPS, MH, flo bulbs, a mercury vapor lamp for supplimental lighting, as well as the Son Agro...I can say hands down that the Son Agro is the best of the bunch for both cycles.
PS...the mercury lamp cannot be used alone but as a suppliment to HPS for the flowering cycle...it makes a HUGE difference. I got much tighter buds and they were some of the most potent I ever harvested. The theory back them (this was in the late 90s) was that the UV light increased THC production. Dunno if that is still considered true, but for me it sure worked.

WALMART
there is a 2' and 4' shop light, both under $10 a piece.
i have two of the 2' and my plant is flowering under it nicely at the beginning stages..
just buy some replacement bulbs with the right spectrum of lumens or mix and match =]

Aight, was up people? I have been doing some research around the subject of lighting and decided on the light you suggested morninglory, the 430w Son Agro HPS. Now them shop light fixtures.... I am thinking of a light fixture that is round and hangs from the ceiling in a factory right? The ones that are shaped like a cereal bowl right? Now that I bought that light, I need something to put it in. Can I jump in here, sounds like you guys have some idea what your all talking about, I need some help 2!

Nah, I don't think that light would be good for anything other than young plants. I was wrong with that light I found, it was a halogen. This light that was suggested before I have read is a good one to go with. It is fifty dollars including 6 day shipping. What I am looking for is an affordable ballast for it. I was interested in finding out exactly what a ballast for lighting is for, so I read about it here. I am looking for a compact ballast and is 430w. And obviously, I still need to get a reflector lid as well. Lame.
