Stoner Buck$$: 107.11 | My crazy ideas... I need help!
Joined the forum with a few lighting questions.
I've grown outdoors a few times with good success. I'm not a super experienced grower with indoor situations, that be my problem.
My ideas are a bit abroad and out-there but I'm confident they will work, but I want a second opinion. If I sound like a dumb retard, excuse me, I probably am...
This is a small operation just to test my theory and see if it works. The winter months around here stink and I don't feel like having another dry winter. This post is about to get lengthy and anyone that actually reads all of it and gives me insight, I'll greatly appreciate it.
Basically I am stuck with outdoors, the growing season is coming to an end so I decided to improvise a way to keep me a few plants going during the winter months until next spring rolls around for me to do my outdoors crop.
So basically I designed a housing out of quarter inch plywood (in theory this is a small greenhouse of sorts). It's about a 4x4 rectangular box with a hinged door. It has been finished and sealed for waterproofing reasons, of course. Inside there is a half inch layer of reflective bubble insulation panels. On top of the panels I have tacked mylar. I have removable panels in strategic locations with glass panes to take in the sunlight when possible (since I will be growing in the winter months.)
I installed 2x 15 watt LED grow lamps (Red & Blue combos) which run off of several car batteries. I use an inverter and a timer. The goal of the lights is to help supplement loss of sunlight in the winter months. I've seen mixed results with LEDs but I think in my situation it might actually work. So far on my batteries I get around 30-40 hours of lighting total, with the timer energy is saved. I should only have to recharge once a week. I will admit recharging is inefficient as heck and I am using quite a few batteries.
They are all secured in a separate waterproof container.
Indoor growing, not an option... Having access to 200 acres of land year-round... big option.
Thanks guys,
Therion

Sounds like a good winter project. Im not really sure what your question/s might be. My main concern would be freezing. And with the plants in pots, the pots will get vry cold to the root zone so Im not sure how it will work out.
Good luck on the project.
Hit us up in chat anytime with questions!
Peace

The generator is a great idea. I have one sitting out in our shop, but the problem is the "Meth chopper" so I call it.
I live in area riddle with meth labs and the fuzz are pretty angsty these days... I think a generator in the middle of a cow pasture would be a little suspicious.... Yay/Nay?

can you put another generator by the cow's water trough?
sort of like a decoy, it will look like an actual usage,
just a thought |

You will be able to keep them in vege mode with supplimental lighting alough you would be much better of with a bigger lamp or lamps as battery powered light wont be very strong and you will have stunted growth as a result.
Goodluck!

Thanks guys,
Therion | I agree, keeping them warm would be the main problem.
If you do try this and it doesn't work... When you tell people you tried growing with LEDs and it didn't work... also mention that you did it with 30 watts, ran off batteries, in a cow pasture, in winter...
