raising and lowering

what exaclty is it that you need to raise and lower a light. im thinking about just going with CFLs.
is there anything specific i need to buy?

I just use chains on hooks from the local home center. Most hardware stores should have chains of various sizes. I cut the chains to length and tape the chain onto the hook at the lights lowest position. That way if i slip while adjusting, the light wont fall to the ground (still might crush some vegetation though).

thanks. so does that mean that i have to use the CFLs that come in tubes?
or is there anything for using lightbulbs.

My bad i had tubes on the brain.
With CFL you can just hang em by the cord i guess. Although i believe most of the light intensity is emitted from the side so you loose some with that method.
I've rigged up aluminum cans that are cut (wear gloves) and fashioned into reflectors. Attach the reflectors to a piece of wood and hang like you would a tube. I would opt for Schlitz cans that way it looks real ghetto-like!

if youre going to be growing with cfl lights, youll want to have them damn near as close to the plants as you can. and im talking an inch or two from the plants. the more lights you use, the better

home depot will have reflectors you can use for the lights, like it was mentioned, most of the light(without the reflector) would be emitted through the sides of the bulb.

the reflectors im thinking of are the ones with the little clamp on one end, with a swivel head type aluminum reflector. pretty easy to manipulate, plus youd be able to hang them and get it situated just right in your grow room

personally im using cfls and regular flourescents and if you get the right lamp (the two ive got) theres already a reflector on it

I swear u just need to spend the money and get t-5 bulb setup...or get the base setup for a ceiling fan that has 4 or 5 bulb setup? there adjustable and work great if cash is tight.

just a quick question you guys that are using cfl's what wattage are you's using and what do your plants give you in return
i use 400watts hps get 2-3 oz

my cfls are running 191 watts with 12,900 lumans with 8 bulbs but i don't know how much i am going to get yet
