Using CFL's with chronic plants question

Will it be worth while if at all to do this:
I have 3 nyc diesel x white widow seeds, would it be effective and worth while to do this using cfl's? These are the only lights I can get locally I believe that I can pay for with cash. Will the plant still be just as healthy? I have them under a group of 4 80 watt cfl's right now day one of dropping the seeds. Any tips would be awesome. Thanks

Re: Using CFL's with chronic plants question

CFL's will and do work. Their light penetration isn't as great as HID, so you have to keep them closer to the plants, but their heat isn't too bad. The bigger and bushier your plants get, the more lights you're going to need. I've seen all CFL grows in mini cabs (SOG) that had great yields.

Those 80W bulbs you have, are they real 80W or are they 80W equivalent? A lot of the bulbs I've seen put the comparable incandescent wattage in real big print. That would make it around 20 watts of cfl, which is fine for seedlings and the beginning of veg.

Re: Using CFL's with chronic plants question

if you have a Home Depot, or a Menards or something in your area they carry small wattag hps/mh lights in the security lighting area...CFL works fine tho, check out some of the grow logs for proof...You can get cfl w/diff kelvin ratings, try to use cool(5000k or so) for veg,and warm(3000k or so) for flower.

Re: Using CFL's with chronic plants question

They are the 80 watt true cfl bulbs, I am going to check out some hps and mh at home depot when I get the chance. What watt mh or hps should I look at for veggin and flowering 3 plants?

Re: Using CFL's with chronic plants question

4 80 watt Cfl is good enough to do 3 plants as long as you don't let them get huge before flowering. You should get at least 150 watts of hps for flowering.

Just wanted to follow up with a few links on some CFL grows. There are quite a few pages in them, but well worth the read. **Inside DrBud's Lab every 48 hours W/Pics** - International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums Compact SOG with CFL's - International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums
