Ok this may be a strange and unusual question but I am looking into indoor growing this coming fall, I only do outdoor right now. But anyhow I am trying to be frugal and earth friendly at the same time. How much heat does a 400 watt hps light and ballast create? I will have my grow room in the basement which and in the winter it's around 55 degrees F. I was going to heat the room with the heat off the light and ballast and blow any extra heat into the finished part of the basement with a carbon filter to eliminate oder. Will this work? Thanks for any info you can give me. Bob

I would say, with a 55 degree ambient, you probably won't be generating that much "usable" heat. If it's in a basement, there is plenty of cool in the slab, the foundation, etc. You may raise the temperature of the non-living space a couple degrees but probably not enough to be pushing it into the rest of the basement. My two cents.

That's true, energy efficiency and all that though, putting the heat without the smell back into the house.
