Bill want to grow one plant somewhere in Canada. Just one, just for a personal stash and to try something new. Is there anyway to make sure he will get a female? or if not, any way to help induce femininity? any other tips regarding the cultivation of his lone plant would definitely help (Bill, of course)

Bill has some good seeds. He just wants to know if he can "use" a male plant, if cultivated.

Bill can't. If Bill were to want a female guaranteed Bill must order Feminised Seeds specifically or go from clone.

Males contain VERY minimal THC. Not enough to even use.

First of all, males do have THC in quantities nearly those of the females. What you do not get is the big buds that the females get.
Much of the bag weed you get today has both male and female plants. It is just not feasable to weed out the males when you are growing many acres of plants. The buds go to seed, and what you end up smoking is the leaves. Welcome back to the seventies.
There are ways to nearly guarantee that your plant will be female.
The chemical Ehtrel can be added in small quantities to the water you germinate your seeds in. When the seeds sprout, and for roughly two weeks, mix a solution of Ehtrel and use it as a foliar spray.
Ethrel (Ethephon, Florel) can be mixed at 1920 ppm for the foliar.
I have not tried this myself as of yet, and you will likely find the same links I found while researching this.
I found Ehtrel in the Florel name brand on the Amazon site and have already made my spray. I have 20 seeds and I will germinate them in a test where 10 will not be given the Ethrel as a control group, and 10 will be given the chemical.
Upon sprouting, I will spray the Ethrel group with the Florel foliar spray in the early growth stage, and again for 15 days just prior to bloom.
If this works, I expect the control group to be roughly 60% female, and the Ethrel group to be at least 90% female. If the results bear this out, I will consider Ethrel a successful product.
Another chemical is colchicine, which is a dangerous and deadly chemical. I won't even try it. Some expert say you should not even smoke the first generation plant, only the clones.
I have also read that Ethrel is also poisonous, just not as dangerous as colchicine.
If I had children around I would not bring it into play, but I don't.

I would not use any toxic chemicals like that for any plant and as for people who do plant big field crops they use clones and u would be stupid not to otherwise u would not be able to sell the weed cause it would be the most seediest crap you would ever see.

I suggest if you can't get a hold of ferts made for MJ than i suggest using normal garden ferts and up the dosage and i also recommend using seaweed based ferts completely organic no harmful toxins like alot of ferts and MJ loves it.

And as for making your plants turn female just use good seed because anything you put on the weed like female hormones in the pill the plant sucks up those hormones and when you smoke it your pretty much ingesting estrogen and someone here will prob say that's a load of crap but its true same thing goes for recycled water its full of female hormones.

I don't know about you, but I am pretty happy when I get a dozen or so clones through the process. As far as getting on your hands and knees and planting 100 acres one clone at a time, well I dunno...

I do, however, agree with dravenxstardust that feminized seeds are often used, but you have no idea how those seeds came to be. Ethrel perhaps?

I suppose you could buy them from Amsterdam at $70-100 for ten seeds...
Let's see...100 acres at $1 a seed? Not terribly realistic...

I typically don't make it a habit of showing my age, but the weed we got in the 60's and 70's had alot of seed in it. We were really smoking leaves. And if you think they went to the trouble of removing the males from their 100 acre crop, well...I quess I know what you have been smoking.

It is fallacy that the male plant has significantly lower levels of THC, and it would have been really wasteful to get rid of them. The only reason one would have gotten rid of the males is to get a sensamilla havest, and all you needed to do was miss one male and all the work of killing the males would have been a waste of time and money.

Real bud was scarce and really expensive. Most smokers never had the opportunity of experiencing it, and feminized seeds were years away.

I grew up with "better living through chemistry". I don't know about you, but I do flush my plants in the last week before harvest, and that is to get rid of the chemicals. Both regular and organic. No one wants to smoke guano either, organic as it may be.

1 dollar a seed,not realistic,try making them and still say they are expensive.,not that you need too as they are available in regular form,both male and female form.

The reason the market isnt female only is because our pionnering breeders decided to give us the choice of selection,everyone likes differant strains,hybrids.

Yes alot of us do know how its done in their countries of origin,infact alot of people study mj fulltime,its not secret what they do.Infact they are now benifiting from the r+d done in europe and are being educated on how to grow finner weed,"none of us has any idea"lmao.

Just cuz you had shitty contacts doesnt mean everyone else has,I personally know smokers and some pioneering breeders from back then,when it all begun in europe infact,late 70's they smoked the sensi mostly.
Trouble,great trouble was has in selecting from 100,000's of plant for traits in programs here in europe and america in the late 70's.
Alot of folk have known what they were smoking from the start,thankfully.

As I said before the main use for males is in breeding,they do get weeded out when not wanted.Males contain much less thc an alough people smoke them they are harmfull and the buzz is I expect from the toxic combustion in your chest effecting your head deffinitly not thc,cbd or any other cannibidol.

Flushing your plants,lol,organic grows dont use chemicals,flush yes but how does an organic grow get chemicals.
