Hi folks, I have just bought an electronic ballast to run a 300w HPS light, the reflector i have does not have a kettle type socket to plug the ballast directly into it.
My question is: is there a right and a wrong way to wire the ballast?

Anything involving electricity has a right and wrong way. Please find some instructions or perhaps post up the model numbers of the ballast and fixtures so it can be looked at. Or take some pictures, that would be good as well. A ballast takes low voltage and turns it into high voltage, in some cases upwards of 5-6 KV that's 1000's of volts. I'm sure the 300W isn't that crazy, regardless, when it comes to wiring you really do want to get it right the first time.
