Minimum lighting? please help

Just set up my first grow room,

Getting alot of mixed info and the subject of lighting.

Seen a lot of rooms with just CFLs

some with fluorescent toobs, and normal 250watt bulbs

and the good old fasion 400watt set up

I have a shit load of CFL in all sizes, Fluorescent toobs ranging from 1' - 8'

and boxes and boxes of bulbs ranging from 75-250watts

Should I invest in a 400-600 watt or could I put something together from what I have.

I'm only planning on keeping and caring for 1 or 2 plants

Can I save the 80 bucks or am I just being cheap?

Re: Minimum lighting? please help

Ignore the CFLs. If you have fluorescent tubes (I assume they're the fat T12 ones) eight of those might do okay for a couple of plants. You'd be better off with a T5 setup, though, much better PAR than normal T12 residential lights.

Re: Minimum lighting? please help

I've used CFL's to grow some pretty good weed. But I do feel that HPS is the only to go when it's time to produce thick bud. So use them CFL's to veg and then HPS to flower and you'll like your results.

I agree the least you need for good resin production is 400w.

Re: Minimum lighting? please help

I have done many grows with CFL's only & had great results.U are gonna that a lot of people here tend to knock CFL's.As far as the t-12,t-8,or t-5 that they dont produce as much light.problem with tubes is the light is concentrated in the middle of the bulb & gets weaker towards the ends.

I agree that you should veg under CFL's & use HPS for flower.even better would be a combo light MH & HPS.I hope u get the results ur lookin for....

Re: Minimum lighting? please help

Hps is fine for both stages of growth.
Pluss with hps you get tighter nodal spacing which is an advantage.
