Hello all Im new to here and Ive been doing ALOT of research about indoor growing BUT Im stuck on how to get started. I really want a indoor grow room for my own personal smoking...Dont want a huge 100 plant room. Just something simple and fast to take apart and hopefully cheap to build. I have heard that flouresent(sp?) 48" tubes in a reflector would work perfectly for 2 to 3 plants...Is this correct? I would like the veterans at growing to give me some ideas in what to do with this space...Thanks in advance
the fluoros do work for growing, but they are not optimal. if you have the room and the funds, a mh/hps setup would give you much better results in the end.
if you do go the fluoro route, i would suggest a 4 rack of the lights, or 2 sets of 2 lights positioned for maximum light coverage of the areas.
keep in mind that an alternative to a few straight tube fluoros is using the lightbulb sized compact fluorescents. you can find clamp reflectors at any home depot and then place them there you need them to be in the growroom.

I was going to go with the HPS set up but Im a bit concerned with the electricity usage. Living in this great country you have the take every single precaution and thats my main one. Ive read that the fluoros dont take as much electricity as the HPS setup...What are your thoughts on that? Ive heard of propane generators but too much hassle and too much noise I believe in my situation...
if you are on a tight budget, the electricity may be a concern. but i think it was only about a 20ish(this is a total guess) dollar jump from nothing to a 600w light.
digital ballasts use less electricity and are much quieter than the traditional ones, tho they cost a little more as well. the particular brand of the ballast plays a big roll in all of those categories. id recommend reading up on the specifics between the leading brands to pic the best one for you.
basically, in the end it is best to save up the money for the hid light with the digi ballast. the startup cost pays for itself many times over when harvest time rolls around.
the propane generator you speak of is for creating CO2, plants in an optimal environment will love having ample carbon dioxide around, but it is not necessary for high quality growth.
if you havent gotten a book yet, you should pick up this latest edition from jorges cervantes-

Well no.. I was told that the propane generator is for creating the electricity to run the light. ( in this case I believe a 400wattHPS) is this true or no?
ah, hah....yeah, i guess that could work too, i wasnt really thinking of that

you really dont need that unless your house is really old and the electrical end of things arent up to par.
My electrical is not bad BUT what im worried about is the energy company hint hint coming and asking why I am using so much power...thats my main concern and of course the smell...What would you reccommend? Ive heard of carbon filters that work wonders with a air duct. How would I be able to get all these thing without creating any suspicion?
My father works at AEP and he has been growin since the 80's he has always had since i remeber like 2400 watts in two rooms. (he smokes alot!!)And from what he says is that as long as you keep up to date on your bill, they will never ever do anything, because all power companies are privately owned so they are trying to make sum money toO!
