Im just about to switch the light cycle on my grow to 12/12 and was wondering is it best to leave them for 24-36 hours in darkness?? I'v heard that this helps kick in flowering?? Am i right, or shall i just switch straight to 12/12??

Well you've got me curious as well now. I've not heard the bit about the darkness when switching cycles. I just go straight over.

I always just switched them right over myself, not heard of people giving them 24 hours darkness but that dont mean it would be bad to do it.
Hopefully someone who has tried and tested that theory will post their thoughts.

Yeah i swear i heard it or read it somewhere? I'm just gonna switch straight to 12/12 i think!! I done it with my last grow so i'll stick to it now i'v heard you guys do it. Would like to hear if somebody has or does do it though, just to make sure i'm not completley losing my mind!!

Now I had heard that at the end of the grow, before harvest, people would black it out for some set amount of time. Supposedly increases the final resin production of the plant. Haven't tried that either.

good thoughts all. i am nearing the end of my first grow and i just switched over from 18/6 to 12/12. i will try the blackout for between 24 and 48 hrs prior to harvest. i know there is some truth to this, i've heard that if you harvest durring the night rime hours, the last bit of nutes left in the plant is dispersed into the root system. as far as my next grow goes i will try both methods of darkness before flowering about 24-30 hours and then bring the lights on at 12/12 and darkness before harvest. good luck too all others and good advice!!!

I have try this with a couple plants in the perpetual garden. If left in darkness at least 24 hours, they seem to kick in to flower faster than not. But even better than 24 hours dark period if some AN's Bud Blood, but I like my organic setup.

Extended darkness wont 'kick them into high gear' for flowering. If they are sexually mature, showing preflowers, and have alternate nodes, they will flower quicker than plants that dont show these signs of maturity.

While we are on it, darkness before harvest to 'increase resin production' is also one of many myths floating around. Try it, all it takes is a little time.

3. Light cycles tip
In growing "motherplants, cuttings, veg" the light cycle is 18 on and 6 off. When Inducing flowering of plants to give your plants a good start, it is important to reset it's internal clock. To do this give the plant 36 hours of darkness before the first 12 hours light 12 hour dark cycle. Remember the dark cycle must be kept 100 % dark, any distruption can cause the plant to start to reveg (grow again) and / or hermaphrodite and we don't want any of that...
