drip vs. ebb and flow

I was wondering what are the real differences in the the two. Could you use sprayers from underneath also in the drip system?

Pot Leaf Re: drip vs. ebb and flow

With ebb+flow the nutrient soloution is flooded into the tray usually for about 15-45mins 3-4 times a day,and drained into rez.
In drip systems the plants are fed individually with its own dripper coming from the manifold-pump,basicly the roots are fed from the top.
So the real differance is in the way nutrients are delivered.
Also drippers allow the luxury of having plant in pots, allowing removal for maintenance etc.
Roots can certanly be maintained with a sprayer from the bottom and will grow np.
Hope this answers your question, basicly the differance is with the way they are fed.

Re: drip vs. ebb and flow

either or will work. assisting the dripper with a sprayer from the bottom will definitley help but may make the system overly complicated if doing one system per each plant. the ebb & flow can also be asisted with a top drip ring( still only running water threw it when the table is being flooded) with great success.

hope it helps.

Re: drip vs. ebb and flow

i have both systems, and my personal opinion is that the drip system is more stable than the ebb and flow system, as it keeps solution aireated directl to the medium, more constant flow of rich oxigenated nuttz creating a good buffer for pH levels.

Re: drip vs. ebb and flow

my point is that you have to keep an eye more in the ebb system than the drip. Ebb rezz's pH and ppm levels tends to change more drastic than dripp system....dont ask me why! wish i could figure that out!

Both systems should have an airstone.
From my expierance the spreadermatting, when used in ebb+flow, flood+drain, allows the plants to feed better resulting in slightly qucker growth. It ensures nutrients are available 24/7.
Im not saying ebb+flow is better, its just been my expierance, having worked with both.

Re: drip vs. ebb and flow

Id keep em at 15 3-4 times a day at the start then as they grow work up to 45min.
This way you be able to get a feel of how much they need.
If big enough 45min from start but at half strenth soloution to aviod overfert probs.
