Ok, well I was giving this some thought (a bit of research as well) today for some random reason, and I believe that my mom could benefit from medical marijuana. She has osteoarthritis. She is in constant, chronic pain. It is not pretty to see. She also has major issues sleeping...she's not an insomniac, but she does not get much rest. She is currently prescribed vicodin and another painkiller, although I can't remember what it is. She takes quite a few a day, from what I'm told by my sister back home, because it is truly the only way she can cope with the pain (which has apparently also gotten much worse since I've last seen her). I was having a discussion with some friends about how terrible those prescription painkillers can be, and in realizing that my mom is taking large doses of vicodin and I don't even know how much of this other pill every day, I started to worry a bit..I mean, I love her, I don't want this pills to destroy her liver and God knows what else. So I thought, hey, chronic pain? Trouble sleeping? Sounds like weed just might be the ticket. I did a little bit of research and from what I found it looks like when it comes to osteoarthritis as opposed to rheaumatoid or any other form of arthritis, it is kind of hit or miss as to whether or not it will help with the pain. It seems as though it should, because the cannaboids are supposed to help with the inflammatory pains, which is obviously the main cause for pain with arthritis...and of course it would help her sleep more. So I'm sitting here thinking and I really believe she could benefit from it, and I want her to give it a try, but how in the world can I suggest this to her? She's very much against herb, even for medical use, and this also would certainly be a giveaway that I smoke (which is also something I want to tell her, but that would be a big problem). I don't want her to continue hurting her body with these goddamn pills...if she just decided to toke up instead, I think her life would be much better...and there's no way in hell she can deny it due to any health risks since she is a smoker and she's taking massive painkillers. It would improve her health. She always said she never did drugs because she didn't want to live her life in a haze, but now that she's on these pills all the time, I'm told by my sister that she's in those dazes all the time now anyway. So if she made the switch, that would go away. Sure, the first few times she'd be getting high things might seem fuzzy and weird for her, but after a while, she would be very normal and functioning I think...maybe not completely, but definitely more so than she is now. How in the world can I suggest this to her?

But, it sounds to me that you have it already all under control. I think you need to just tell her what you've told us so far, explain the whole situation like you have to us, explain your concern and what not. This also would be a great time to tell her that you smoke like you said.

here is what i would do. Describe it like this to her:
"hey mom, i have this friend who's dad is a doctor. He knows this new experimental drug that could dramatically reduce your pain with little or no drawbacks. Its enjoyable and not as expensive as vicodin."

then hit her with it.

perfectsong13... first tell her how much you love her... just like you told us. You are correct to be concerned about the Vicodin (sp?)... it will destroy your liver and it's very addictive.

Magnet therapy along with the cannabis might be very helpful to your mom.

Thanks everybody...I appreciate it. She's had this for a couple of years now, and there's absolutely nothing doctors can do to make it better, all they can do is prescribe stuff to alleviate the pain. I know that I will eventually make this suggestion, probably next time I go back home, but it's much easier said than done. She's pretty ignorant and stubborn, I hate to say, when it comes to herb...so I just hope I can get through to her without her tuning me out and thinking I'm full of shit. I just hope she'll understand how sincere I am.

Also, desertweed, what is magnet therapy? I've never even heard of that. What does that do? How does it work?

ive watched the closest person in the world to me, go through some of the worst pain a person can imagine. my grandma also has horrible forms of arthritis. so bad in fact two months ago she had surgery on her spine so pressure could be relieved from it, and so she could continue to move herself around.

its horrible to see this pain, and to see what other drugs d oto your loved ones. its horrible. i talked many many times with my grandma about pot, and she kept an open mind. it took a while of explaining, and facts and research helped a ton.

i wish the best for you two.

Just Say You Did Some Reaserch On Medical Marijuana Cuz You Were Curious About It (Or Heard) And Looking To See If It Was "Safe" Enough For Her To Try Out And What It Would/Could Help Her With.. Just tell her you worrie About Her Her Cronic(well in her Veiw Severe) Pain And Her Taking Those Pills Everyday...

magnets worn next to the body can help arthritis. Hemitite (i know that's not spelled right) is a natural magnetic stone... I wear these in a bracelet and anklet that really do help. Of course I have no were near the pain your mom has, but it might be worth a try.

Massage is also very helpful to those with joint and muscle pain.

As a professional massage therapist I'm not allowed to mention "herbal" remedies on the job...but as a stoner, I suggest toking over pain pills any day.

Yeah man, just talk to her, be honest, tell her youve been researching medicinal marijuana and lay everything out like you did here. i definitely agree that herb would be a much better alternative to vicodin and shit, and it sounds like it could help her out. good luck man.

of now thats out of the way wat u need to do is roll up a blunt or joint and take it to her and after u talk to her bring it out and light it up and just try and get her to take a hit and if not blow it in her face when shes not looking
