PROPOSAL 08-1
A LEGISLATIVE INITIATIVE TO PERMIT THE USE AND CULTIVATION OF MARIJUANA FOR SPECIFIED MEDICAL CONDITIONS

The proposed law would:
â€¢ Permit physician approved use of marijuana by registered patients with debilitating medical conditions including cancer, glaucoma, HIV, AIDS, hepatitis C, MS and other conditions as may be approved by the Department of Community Health.
â€¢ Permit registered individuals to grow limited amounts of marijuana for qualifying patients in an enclosed, locked facility.
â€¢ Require Department of Community Health to establish an identification card system for patients qualified to use marijuana and individuals qualified to grow marijuana.
â€¢ Permit registered and unregistered patients and primary caregivers to assert medical reasons for using marijuana as a defense to any prosecution involving marijuana.

Do you think this proposal will be adopted?

i saw a poll on the large newspaper in MI's website, and it was at 80% in favor of it. Id say it will pass with flying colors. As most states would do the same now with the correct knowledge of the good green given to responsible voters.

Does it really matter when it's a federal law that it's illegal?

yes, it really matters.

if state laws were not in effect, i would be in prison as a result of my state funded raid on my medical marijuana grow. because it is legal for med patients in colorado, the judge ordered back all my stuff, and the weed. DID I MENTION IT KEPT ME OUT OF PRISON.

the short answer is, there are many states that fight for individual rights, and the constitution was meant to grant those things. but our fed govnt thinks it needs to stamp on such given state rights. by each state that passes medical marijuana, they are saying we agree there is medical and compassionate use for marijuana, and we want our citizens afforded the ability to use it. how would anything get done if everyone always said. the big man wont let me do it?! i cant wait to see Michigan as the 14th Medical Marijuana State. And that includes Arizona, who has med marijuana, but because of a porrly written law, it is ineffective, and pointless in that state. hopefully they will fix it soon.

congratulations to Michigan on Proposal 1!
I have a few friends that will benefit from this being passed!
One of them going through a struggle with Hemophilia.
I'm very happy that this got passed!

It's not really that hard to get away with blazing in Michigan in the first place..

Its not to get away with it man. Its for people that need it Medically, or compassionately. Little had to do with people "getting away with it."

Think about who this law helps and what it does for people with Cancer, and Aids, and Severe Pain, not to mention the countless other illnesses the pot can assist in relieving some of those issues.

Thats not what this was about, to just let people willy nilly smoke.

Thats still coming.

Excellent to have another state that is open to helping those that suffer and need this medicine or herb.
But for MI, the law for possessikon is ONLY A $100 fine..Its the Seller that takes it in the shorts...
Now that the president elect has stated that the DEA will NOT enforce federal laws on a Medical Marijuana states. Plus and this is big, there is no longer any federal funds for prosecuting marijuana users, makes no difference if its for medical needs or recreational.
Executive order can remove it from the class one status and put it under other prescriptions classification (Second class). whew..its about time.
