Stoner Buck$$: 661.37 | Wondering what would be the best strain of medical cannabis for me
Hello everybody! This is my first post here and so far, I like what I see! It's so great to have finally found a stoner community of open-minded individuals who aren't ashamed of their use of this sacred plant; who still believe in the movement for cannabis liberation.
I'm actually a refugee from Cannabis.com, you see. It used to be a great stoner community full of bright people, but then the new owners took over. Suddenly we had to all pretend we only used cannabis legally for medical reasons, as per the new rules. Social threads of any kind were banned, talk of all other drugs were banned, a whole plethora of talk was banned. The spirit of protest is dead there, the spirit of saying "I'm a cannabis user, I should not be considered a criminal, and am proud of it!" is dead. And so here I am, in this wonderful new community of yours, and I look forward to a lot of lively discussion with you all.
Now! To the main point of this article: finding the right strain. Cannabis has been a very delicate balance for me; figuring out exactly which strains agree with me. I have Osteo Arthritis in at least one part of my spine, nerve/soft tissue damage in my neck and lower back, and generally experience a lot of pain throughout most of my body. This is due to repeated physical trauma from taking Judo and Aikido almost 7 years ago (I was 16 at the time) throughout my back, and having a heavily-damaged nerve in the upper-right portion of my neck from a chiropractor who adjusted it and completely wrecked my neck.
I take oxycontin for this (I'm now completely immune to anti-inflammatories it seems), but my doctor started me on 20mg a day 9 months ago and says she will NEVER, so long as I live, increase my dose. I'm in a LOT of pain every day that keeps me from living anything near a normal life, but there's just no convincing her or any other doc that someone my age (23) could actually be in that much pain. Believe me, I am. The stigma's on narcotic analgesics and people my age, is frustrating to say the least. I do not want them to get high!
So anywhoo, I need to figure out the right strain of cannabis. It's a funny thing, though, because 95% of strains actually increase my pain drastically. I've only come across 1 strain that makes no difference either way, and 1 strain (when I lived in Victoria) that actually reduced my pain. Unfortunately, I have no idea what that strain was.
Sooo.... any ideas? I'm pretty sure it was some kind of Indica, but that's really all I've got. I would be really grateful to have some suggestions on a strain ideal for pain relief. I enjoy getting high as much as you all, but it's not really a priority; I'd much rather just have something to reduce the pain.

Hi,
I am not a medical card holder but I am going to helping someone who is. I am learning quite a bit about this and found out that is seems like for back pain it is important that it be eating rather than smoked to get the pain relief. It comes from not the thc so much as the cbn and cb something else. My new house mate is the patient and he has bad back pain and when he worked with some doctors on Maui he found that white rhino and pure power plant are very helpful in this. But you gotta make butter or olive oil with the weed first then eat it.
I wish I could explain it better but I am just learning. I better learn fast because I am the new gardener.
It is going to be trial and error for us and you too. Please keep us posted on what you learn too.

Everyone is different though. Do you mean when you vape it you get 90% thc? The place uncle ordered the seeds from says that it is 15-20% thc.
Check out this short video from Maui. It explains it pretty good. |

Thanks for the replies everybody. I actually have a (cheaper-end) vaporizer, and really should start using it again. So much more bang for your buck! Not to mention the high is always really strong. But it still has the same effect of greatly increasing my pain levels.
I've considered eating it, but it takes so much more weed to get the same effect. I purchased an ounce a week ago, but that was after 4 months of involuntary abstinence. It's really rare that I can get a hold of any, so I don't want to use a lot up.

Dude. What are you saying? Dope makes you hurt. And you are bummed because eating it takes more to get the same effect? So you groove on pain? My God. I want to be helpful but geeze.

Ummmm... any specific strain suggestions? I know Indicas are way better than Sativas for pain relief, but I still need a specific kind (I've smoked indica's that made me worse before). I also read that Sativas, while having cannabinoids with analgesic properties, have other cannabinoids that aggrivate pain, and are involved in the more "cognitive high" that sativa's are renowned for. Personally, I suspect it may have something to do with triggering too much dopamine, then quickly creating a crash.

a sativa can have undesired effects on neural pain associated with headaches, but that is limited from what i can tell with my research.
and from what i can tell, def in my experiences with people also, that pot very rarely adds to the pain. myself, cannot enjoy sativas as id like, but that is ok because they arent as effective medically for the neural pain in my head and neck.
an indica is generally a strong body high, and attacks more places directly with the pain relieveing qualities than a sativa will. but some will argue that, and mention the qualities for a sativa during the day for relief is their best option. but it all depends on your illness. pain management def needs to go towards the indica route. as i see sativa being more of a strain for subsiding stomach issues and possible other non-direct pain related way. maybe its anxiety.
as far as strains go. in indica, you might look into the northern lights #5 strain. it seems to be the best strain i can find to relieve myself of most pain. the next id say is CX1. its easy to grown and has both a relaxation in the high as well as pain relieving charateristics. its one of the most chilled relaxed strains ive been able to smoke.
for a sativa, id say the island sweet skunk is a great strain on that end. its completley useless to me as far as a neural headache pain reliever. when i used this strain it was a great high, and many people will hold it high, and say its one of their favorites, and man does it smell, but in my opinion its not good for headaches, but a great strong mix for other people with pain, stomach issues, and anxiety.
botoom line is finding a pure, responsibly grown plant that will give you some great medicine. if grown correctly, almost any strain will be of benefit, and the awesome part is learning which one is best for you. luckily i think my caregivers are starting to specialize a couple strains and im excited to have input on them, and to have a solid supply of great, effective, and affordable medicine. man does it feel comfortable to have people like that... thanks all you caregivers and growers. you are doing a great thing.
ps- all strains have analgesic properties to them, its just finding the ones that are the best for you. and like i mentioned before. ive never really heard of the green increasing pain to a person other than myself with the headaches, and certain strains.
