A short story about why I feel that medicinal marijuana is something that people need to take into further consideration.
Living in Florida, the old conservative folks are keeping marijuana quite illegal. Reguardless, I use on an occasional bassis. When I am drunk other drunk people do nothing more than annoy me. I dont enjoy the feeling of being drunk and the after effects are even worse. Thus, I'd rather get high.
Now, to the story. My current GF has been experiencing terrible tension headaches that teder on the level of migraine. She went to the clenic to see about some sort of medication to get her through finals. I expected some sort of migraine medication with caffiene. Instead, they prescribed Fioricet with codiene. This startled me a bit but she began taking it and it did help. This past friday we were going to go hang out with some buddies of mine and we all smoke, she drinks. I had warned her about mixing opiates with alcohol but she slipped up and took her dose of codiene anyway. Not long after she began drinking she slipped into a delusional state. She got upset with me for some reason that was out of my control and ended up taking a walk around the neighborhood. I thought she was going outside to cool down but I found out she had left.
I got in the truck to go find her and when I did she was throwing up in a ditch. Not long after I found her she passed out. An EMS saw us on the side of the road and stopped to check it out. Because she was incoherent and they made an official stop they had to take her into the hospital. They took her BAC and it was just over 0.10. This is drunk but not passed-out wasted. I told them she had also taken codiene and they went into a frenzy. Throughout the night she would wake up only to dry heave and then pass back out. Her heart rate stayed constant at 90+ and her blood pressure dropped as low as 60/30 at times. This combination of drugs put her in the hospital...all to releive a simple headache.
After that fiasco we were sitting around hanging out agian recovering from the night before. I roll up a blunt and my two buddies and I start passing it around. She asked if weed would cure a headache and I said yes, it has for me. It also releives anxiety. She took a single drag off of the blunt and not long after she said she felt little to no disorientation but the headache was completely gone. She also felt relaxed and stayed calm and collective for the rest of the night.
What I am saying is, she was prescribed a dangerous drug that mixes even more dangerously with a commonly used drug to do something that a single drag of marijuana would do. Food for thought.

it was not the pills that caused her probs...it was the mixing of pills with alcohol! as a regular legal user of opiates myself i know very well how alcohol can enhance or even change the nature of opiates...which is why there is always a warning on the pill bottle discouraging such a mix! you can't blame the drug for her bad reaction...but rather blame the choices she made.

Food for thought. | I went through this also. But its taken ten years to get to a decision where i feel marijuana is the ONLY medication, besides an excedrin now and then, that i use.
While i was in jail for my felony charge last month, my doctor, and neurologist that i trusted, gave me 4 medication to take. All of which WEREN'T recommended to take together. At least my research and a nurse at the jail thought so. But this medicine made me feel drunk, and out of it. I couldnt do normal things i was used to while just smoking. In fact i couldn't function at all. Ive taken the fiorecet your girl was prescribed too. Its heavy stuff, and when i refused that, i was given Butalbitol. Which is an analgesic, for minor surgeries. In other words a seriously addictive drug. I tried all these before i got to jail and was not about to take them while i was IN. So i went on a minor withdrawl, after only taking the meds for a week. (also was given two presc. for stress relief - both not recommended together, and Highly addictive) The feeling was like no other i have had before. Its taken about a month and a half for my brain and body to literally feel like its getting back to the creative and physical stages i was at before.
But good ol Northern Lights Outdoor fixes it all. And works well, ..."with relatively no side effects." said my judge in the case, as she sent me to jail without my REAL meds.
Just wanted to share my story a little. It was clipped together and i hope it makes sense. But pain, and pain like your girlfriend has is one of the most debilitating pains.

Is mixing opiates and weed bad? I know not as bad as alcohol mixture, but if should you not take the perscribed medication before you smoke pot?
