I'm sorry but it's not acceptable for him to allow the war on drugs to go any further whatsoever. He needs to sh!t or get off the pot.
Either legalize it or stfu. This is no real victory for us.

mxmike is right this does not change anything, might be a stepping stone but thats all it is. you still gotta deal with the state laws if you live in a non med state. really this is just a cop out if you ask me, he says that we arent going to prosecute people but they still have to abide by the state laws no matter how screwed up they may be. so in one hand hes playing to his supporters who want it legalized and in the other hes really not changing anything at all. makes it appear like hes actually doing something.

That's what's crazy. The feds never obey state laws and are thereby in direct violation of the United States constitution. They should have never gone after the dispensaries in states that allow them in the first place. So thanks Mr. Obama, for granting us a right that's not theirs to take away in the first place.

still... a lot of dispensaries were raided by feds. if they no longer can do this then that is a victory

It's a step forward, but I don't think it's that big of a step. However, it shows that this administration is at least headed in the right direction.

i take it as a sign that obama has allowed states rights over federal oppression. thats actually a good sign.
if its legal in your particular state, the federal government should not be allowed to interfere. and in the long run, as more and more states relax the criminalization its going to be a very positive impact.
for those like want less federal intrusion, i just plain feel this is the right way to go. let the individual states decide for themselves what is legal for their own citizens.

Small victories are victories still .. I live in a decriminalized state (< 1oz). Do you know what it feels like to walk out of the house with a small bag and not worry about criminal arrest ?? Almost feels like freedom.
Yes, still a long way to go .. and I may not see legalization in my lifetime .. but maybe the next generation will ..

democracy makes it difficult to make significant domestic accomplishments...that is a good thing because it tames excesses, such as the enabling of progressives to tame oppression, but it also enables the oppressives to tame progression...so we are limited to baby steps in both directions

The slogan for tescos (UK supermarket chain) is very appropriate here, "every little helps"
A step forward is always a positive thing

Folks,
IMHO, I do not think any serious victory has shown up...other than a "Change of Policy"....which is a far cry from Repealing Federal Pot Prohibition Laws...plain and simple.
While this change of "Policy" is welcome...it sure is a far cry from ending this inane "War on potheads" of all sorts.
Legalize Cannabis...all of it's derivatives...then regulate and tax it.

A. I Am NOT an Obama supporter
I do however, want to say just how annoying it is to read people claiming it does nothing..
the president, ACTUALLY ACKNOWLEDGED MEDICAL POT....Robert Gibbs last time he was asked about it months ago, said there is no such thing, it has no medical value...
sure, its NOT legalization, or decrim....but...its a first step in a positive direction, without fed support we have 44 percent support in the USA...factor in a president who gets support for whatever he does, and that percentage goes up up up.....
this is a long, slow process...but for those of us who ACTUALLY need it, not to get BAKED with our buddies, but to stop our pain...its worth the wait...and when they actually do regulate it better....there wont be as many people with cards, since 80 percent shouldnt have one...Period...now...that is just till they figure out pot presents no danger. when they figure that out, then the rest of the pot users that arent legitimate medical users, can use it.
