Need help with 1st grow setup

Hey guys,
I know there has been a lot of these kinds of posts but Im really excited about my 1st time grow setup. A friend of mine has a secret room behind his closet that we just found. Its about 4 x 6 and has a couple of windows (which we will soon black out). I was wondering if you guys could throw me some good 'ol knowledge. I have read the entire grow bible, and feel somewhat comfortable. I want to know what you guys would do with about a 600-800$ budget. That includes seeds, cuz I cant find any good strains locally. I dont know if I have the balls to do a hydro grow... I read this article a little bit ago that says you can half a bucket - one side fertilizer, and the other just reg soil. That way the plants have access to fert as much as they want and their is no chance of burning because of the fresh, fert-less soil on opp side. Let me know guys - I would love some links to other posts like mine!!!

I have been looking into the 1000w ValuLine Ballast from discount-hydro. I just cant figure out which bulb it comes with?? I know that I need a MH for veggie and a HPS for flowering. How important do you guys think the air-cooled hood would be? I know these light put off some serious heat, worth it for the extra lumenaire to cool those bulbs?

And secondly- what are some seriously fool-proofed+potent strain for beg indoors??

Sorry I missed your posts earlier bro. Ill try to give a few opinions and hope you come back to check your thread. Also, almost always some grow knowledge in the chat room. Come visit there sometime.

#1---Those 1000 watt bulbs are extremely hot. I would go with the 600 from HTGSupply online for 199 plus shipping. Not quite so hot, digital ballast, open hood (I blow a small fan across my similar light) and good results, etc etc...

Those buckets you linked to. The plants will get way to big for that setup. Best to grow weed in individual containers so you can seperate male from female. In that system the roots will get intertwined and it will be a nightmare. I have used the GH buckets similar to these but without the resovoir attached. If you need to grow on the cheap though, do the hempy style. 3 gallon mop bucket. 2/3 perlite, 1/3 vermiculite. Use active hydro charts to get your nute mix. Cost for setup is about 10 per bucket total. Much easier than the drip ring buckets you referred to.

Comcerning seeds. Check out Nirvana links through this site. They rate each strain as to how easy to grow. Pick some and they send discreet shipping.
