| Re: germination question about tap root and fluorescent light
If a tail is starting to grow from the shell its time to plant them. If you allow the tail to grow long, it takes a little extra of the stored food and energy provided by Ma Nature, and it may not have enough energy left to survive any stress from planting. Its also easier to break a long tail when handling, and they might even intertwine into a paper towel, making it hard to extract without damage.
The remaining seeds without a tail can go into paper towels for a few more days. Just because the shell cracked dosent mean they will grow a tail and become sprouts. Water will swell and crack a seed even if its not viable. Look for tail before planting.
Seedling are very adaptable to whatever light shines on them. They can be started under a 1000w or a reading lamp bulb....for a few days....then they need enough light, and in the right spectrum to make photosynthesis happen. Almost any floro or cfl will get them by for awhile, but weak light will cause stretching. You get out of it what you put into it. We veg or raise mamas under a bank of floros equaling 240w, and it works fine. Clones and seedlings are sometimes under a bank of floros equaling 90w.
But when we get seroius about getting the best from them, its HID lighting.
