Today I was downtown and decided to stop at the "New Morning Bakery" for a cup of coffee. Lucky for me there was outdoor seating at the front sidewalk. Some tables that were never level, chairs that were designed for torture, and the mandatory short wrought iron fence that is more rust than iron. Did I mention this was a public sidewalk? I pay for my house blend and take a seat outside to enjoy the newspaper sip my coffee, and smoke a cigarette. I didn't even get the lighter in my pocket before the "barista" came out to tell me this was a "No Smoking Area". I didn't even look up from my paper as I told her it was a public sidewalk and I would not extinguish my cigarette. Our hero (the barista), obviously disturbed by my lack of concern went back into the bakery to call the police. I continued to savor my coffee. After about five minutes two police officers entered the bakery, then one came out with the "barista" to confront me. The officer told me he was there to find out why I was causing so much trouble. The "barista" told them I was being very abusive to her and the other customers. The other officer finished talking to customers and came out with a funny look on his face. He told the girl none of the customers had a clue what this was about. Seems the girl never told the police this was about me smoking. The Officers informed her of the same fact I did, it's a public sidewalk..
I will now make a habit of stopping there at least once a week for coffee, the newspaper and a smoke during her shift. Being passive aggressive is such a joy..

Neat story Buttless. Looks like you handled it perfectly. I had a similar incident just Saturday. I was walking on a sidewalk and lit up a cigarette and quickly heard the discontent behind me as two people walking in my same direction expressed their disgust at the fact I lit up a cigarette. I felt embarrassed and instinctively moved aside to let them by. I was in NYC for christ's sake. I know the city has a no smoking ban in all of their buildings and I am cool with that. But I didn't think my cigarette was the worse smelling thing on that street. I guess thise two pepole felt differently. Oh well.
people always bitch at me for smoking in my cab. Good lord cant they just fucking take it? I sit there all damn day trying to ignore there stupid fucking chit chat. Who the fuck came up with the theory you should talk to your god damn cab driver or even think we would really give a fuck what your talking about. So next time your in a cab do the man a favor ad Don't say a fucking word unless he asks you question.Dont talk about his fucking radio station. Don't even read his fuckin name badge. Don't make a stupid comment about the way we smell for Christ sake we sit in a god damn cab all day sweating trying not to turn around and snap your fucking neck. So respect your cab drivers people, and don't ask them if they are drunk or try to have them put out there smoke.

People always tell he I'm high strung. Everyone wants to talk talk talk all day and when i have something to say I'm to damn high strung or so I'm told. I can assure you i try to self medicate by smoking some grass. Good lord let a man talk. I just found this great place but i don't see whats so wrong with what I'm saying. I'm trying to relax through typing. And i cant do that when all my threads keep disappearing and i have to relive what i just got off my chest. God i have had a bad day OK. Working with the public is not exactly a relaxing way to start your day.
Well all I can say is there are quite a few people that have bad days, and some might just be worse than yours. So soak up the good vibes and leave the bad karma outside the door.
