hey so I am trying to make a water bottle bong and for the stem I was going to use a pen but I found out that some pens contain a chemical called polystyrene wich with just a little can ruin you brain so in the video The guy was using a bic and they tolled me to find pens with non-toxic sings I went out looking but all the pens dont have a toxic or non toxic sign so do you know if bics like the ones on this pic http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/3/neon-logo/BicPens.jpg contain polystyrene? or what else can I use as a stem that is not made of plastic?

Just head down to the home depot and get some brass fittings. On the aisle where they are, you'll find everything you could ever need to build a pipe or a bong.

Similar to that, that's refrigeration stuff but along the same vein. Most of what you want will be in 1/8" brass. That's just an industry sizing, the stuff won't actually be 1/8 inch in diameter, closer to 3/8". You'll find elbows, nipples and fittings of all types.

No problem man. Remember, try to stay away from plastic, copper and aluminum. Brass is the business.

I know its not likely your older brother was a former trumpet player or anything, but i have heard that a trumpet mouthpiece works very well as a bowl insert. You can also use a socket from a socket wrench, just make sure to get one with a small hole, perhaps less than 3/8th?.
I know aluminum is bad but if its for a one time thing it wouldn't hurt too bad.

also, if you don't have a metal piece, you can use the metal tip of a pen. It is pretty small, but it still worked really well. I just taped mine on, which probably isn't that safe. It does let it in a lot of the pot to the water, well, maybe not alot. Idk, simple and works well so wooh!

Try getting a hold of a slider peice and bowl from your local headshop and stick it in a sturdy plastic bottle, thats what I did when I first started. I grabbed mine from a ol' broken bong.
