| Re: On occasion I post up pics of some of my toys. That is Damascus Steel. It's high-carbon content makes for a very strong blade. The pattern comes from how the metal and carbon is twisted and folded during the forging process, and is brought out by a slightly acidic bath that eats away some of the carbon compounds, leaving the pattern behind.
The guy at the sword shop had NO clue what he had on his hands. He was advertising it for 1500, I paid 727 for it. I had it appraised, it's worth more like 8-15 grand depending on the name on the tang. |
