Glow in dark paints, glow in dark stars, trippy posters, mushroom motifs, pot motifs, party lights, and above all....lots of incense and blacklights.
Psychedelic is a state of mind, so get there and imagine your room how it would look when you're in that state of mind. I say glow in dark stuff is best because if you dont want to look at the psychedelic stuff at times, most of it is almost invisible without black lights.
Lava lamps are a must as well.

Go to your local head shop and look around. Tie dye black light posters are nice.. a blacklight is a must, a nice fancy incense burner, dim lighting, use lamps with some type of covering over the shade, maybe with a colored bulb like green.
Strobe lights, lava lamps, those cool static ball thingys, and i think one of those cool little water machine fountains are cool.
Maybe a fog maker? lol i dunno i stoned spouting out ideas

Get clear bottles. Open hilighters (preferably the yellow ones) and pull out the inkwell. Stick inkwell down neck of bottle, and hold it with clips or hemos or whatever, anything but your fingers. Get really hot water, and carefully pour it down the hilighter inkwell, so it flushes out all the dye. Fill with hot water the rest of the way, add a few drops of soap to help retard the growth of anything, and put under a blacklight. That's one thing I used to do, had a HUGE lineup of bottles.

Thats a good point, I knew that and forgot that nice trick.
Dont different color highlighters yield different colors?

They sell a lot of black light posters at spencers and black light paints and stickies for your walls and everything else you want to paint.
i would say defiantly:
black light
trippy posters
a lot of black light items
(for my room wall i used a sponge to paint the room green so its green and white, really cool effect with the sponge, the white glows and it looks nifty under the black light.)
then some smoking bottles instead of incense holders, they look more cooler
Now, sit down in your room and think about what kind of psychedelic things you can do there. Catch the drafts, the light, the mood. What do you like and not like about your room?
Now, picture the colors and patterns that appeal to you. Sketch floor plans, imagine color combinations, make the most of light, etc. WRITE down everything you possibly can. You are at your most creative right now. Later, you can be more left-brained because you will have tons of ideas.
Give it a day or two, sit down and go through your ideas, and the best will come to you. If it doesn't, go back to Step One.
This has always worked beautifully for me when a room needed a "mood makeover"
