Radical new tire design by Michelin.
The next generation of tires.
They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show. Yes, those are 'spoke' like connections to the inner part of the tire from the outside tread 'wrap!' The next picture shows how odd it looks in motion... Makes you wonder how the ride feels doesn't it? These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon.
The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these.
Just think of the impact on existing technology:
A.. no more air valves...
B. no more air compressors at gas stations...
C. no more repair kits...
D. no more flats... These are actual pictures taken at the South Carolina plant of Michelin.

Very cool. I read about these a week or two ago. I can't wait to see how much they cost. They would suck hindmost teat in the snow though. Too bad. . .

cool!
but I think law enforcement will still have a good 'weapon' against it: those things with spikes with a net to it that wraps around the tires
but it sure looks cool
hope they come in bicycle-version too |

Im not sure how pratical this is. Like osprey said they wouldnt be good in snow, and according to some reports Above 50 mph, the Tweel vibrates considerably. That in itself might not be a problem, but it causes t noise and heat. A fast moving Tweel is unpleasantly loud. Long-distance driving at high speeds generates more heat. I think these would be best suited for construction vehicles, and military vehicles.

Not to mention gravel. Shoot, it's 2010 and I still have to drive gravel roads all the time, I'll bet those mofos would pick up some rocks and get enthusiastically out of balance.

I have to admit though, I still want some. I wouldn't buy them but I'll still want them.

gravel? we have dirt roads down here in mississippi. and the get full of ruts! we call them corduroy roads cause thats how the look. i dont know much about tires, but i dont think those see through tires would do very good though. they are very cool though. i imagine they would be fine if you drove mostly in cities and short distances.

here almost all roads are bricks or asfalt
we even have asfakted bicycle paths a lot of them are actually, and some more scenic/tourist bicycle paths are with shells
but that's prbably because everyone lives closer to eachother here, our railroads are also pretty well

That would freak me out on a burn cruise if I saw a car drive by with those. "Holy crap floating car!"
They look sick but impractical. Would not mind them on a show car or something.
