So here's whats going down:
My boyfriend has had a cellphone for several months. He said that he picked it up out of a box of cellphones for emergency use produced by the BP school district for the homeless. I never questioned this as it sounds rather legit.
He has been constantly using this phone in order to call friends and family and of course me. This afternoon I got a very shady phonecall from an unknown number asking for my name. I was told that this man is from the BP school district and that they are trying to figure out why the district has been calling me. I told him that I didn't know why my number would be in their system and that I had never received a call from that number before (which is true). The man said okay and hung up the phone.
A couple of minutes later I receive another phonecall from the school district once again complaining that there have been numerous calls made to my phone with durations last somewhere around 50 min. He then proceeded to list off the phone number that the calls are being made from. Unsurprisingly, this is my boyfriend's cellphone number. I never answered him as to knowing the number; he asked if my boyfriend lived in BP which he doesn't, told me that the police would become involved and hung up the phone.
I guess I really have no idea if I have done anything wrong or not. I tried calling my boyfriend to inform him to stop using the phone, but didn't get ahold of him. Likewise, I tried calling his sister-her phone is turned off.
What do I do now? Is this considered cellphone fraud? And at the same time his dad works for the school district, so will his dad lose his job?
I really need advice here.
