Fertilizer Question

When we first started, we added the sprinkle-in-the-dirt fertilizer as well as the fertilizer plant food sticks too early and hurt some of our little guys. Now the plants range from 6 inches to about a foot. Is it ok to add fertilizer and the food sticks now? How often is good to add it?

Re: Fertilizer Question

I would avoid the "food sticks". There's no control over the release. Start with a weak mix, maybe quarter strength, see how the plants react and bump up the mix from there.

Re: Fertilizer Question

Plain water, IMO, is easier and less stressful for the plants than bad ferts or over watering with them.

Re: Fertilizer Question

I would stay away from the sticks. Liquid nutes are too easy to use these days and offer more control for you to create a better environment. Since you already started with nutes I would start adding with a very reduced dose to take into account the already available nutrients.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Re: Fertilizer Question

The plants range in size from a few inches to almost a foot tall. The stalks are about 1/4 inch thick at their biggest. I have them in several different size pots, some plastic and some clay. I'm actually not sure on the fertilizer, but I still haven't used it. They look a lot worse, I will take pictures and post them tomorrow to see if the updates 'symptoms' help with diagnosis ^.^

Re: Fertilizer Question

Well 1st off if their more than 4 weeks old you need to feed them start with 1/4 strength nutes in some PH'd water and see where you go from there. Do not over water them give just enough to wet the rootball and make the soil moist, not wet. Will check back in and see how things are coming along.Peace...take care..
