Growing noob quesetion on hermies

I know that everyone strives for female plants. I know how to tell the different (I think :P) but what I am wondering is, what's wrong with hermaphrodites? Sure, they can pollinate themselves, but don't they also grow bud? In theory, couldn't you clip the pollen sacs off so that they don't pollinate themselves and still grow bud on a hermie? Has anyone tried this with any kind of results?

Ours aren't even big enough to show gender yet, just curious.

Re: Growing noob quesetion on hermies

Yes you still get bud, if the pollen sacs open and pollenate it you will get seeds and bud, you can pinch them off before they open and still get nice bud.
An another member here had some plants go hermie but luckily for him they didnt pollenate and he said the bud would still good.

Re: Growing noob quesetion on hermies

Thanks, that gives us hope then - we're just using bag seeds until we get the hang of growing. ^_^ Good to know that there's still a chance we might get something from it!

Re: Growing noob quesetion on hermies

The problem with hermies is it would be very difficult to get all of the pollen sacs. I know I have tried. If even 1 sac opens and you have fans, the whole crop is going to be pollinated. Once that happens the plant puts most of its resources into producing seeds. Also the plant no longer needs to produce resins for the pollen to attach to. Less resins - less potentancy. This is why we strive for seedless weed.
